To quote Judge Judy, if it doesnt make sense, it probably isn't true. So, it doesnt make sense that Carnival would only do cabin service once a day, when their competitors do it twice a day .. so that one Id say is a bad rumor.

They are already charging the $18 for the 4 choices on the menus, Iv seen it. Trial or not, Carnival is doing it because RCL is doing it .. cruiselines all do the same thing and copy each other.

I know a host on a large well known cruise message board who came back from his Carnival cruise and said he heard from someone on his ship that RCL stock had a target of $1, and so and so analyst had downgraded it and it was below $5 .. at the time it had never been below $5 in years .. the analyst he named had recently upgraded the stock to a buy .. made him look foolish for believing it.. his bias against RCL was showing.

Dont believe everything you hear .. take it with a dose of common sense.

I agree that if it doesn't make sense it probably isn't true. The only thing is that someone at some time will be the first to try something. I hope it isn't cutting back on cabin service.

The incident about RCL stock being below $5 must have been from a LONG time ago. The lowest I remember was $12 something in 2003.

Take care,
Mike

RCL was trading in the 5.90 - 6.00 range in February and March 2009. I bought 100 shares at that time for the shareholder OBC. Now I wish I'd bought 10000 shares since it is trading at 47 today. Oh well.

I forgot about that time frame. It was a good time to buy and a bad time to sell especially with the level it has gone to.

Take care,
Mike

Interesting Kuki.

Just looked that up myself, and it is true. I wonder if it is only a matter of time before you see the rest of Carnival and it's brands bring back a fuel surcharge. After all, Carnival owns Cunard right? (I am assuming this as the shareholder credit for CCL is valid on Cunard ships as well as many more.)

With all that being said, I follow the CCL stock, own the 100 shares for shipboard credit, and read a fair bit about it and RCL as well.

In a nutshell both CCL and RCL have received more upgrades and "Buy" ratings over the last few months. As a whole I have read that cruise business has been trickling back, and they have been slowly raising prices and profits. Heck, even when Carnival announced their most recent earnings, the whole Spendor incident never hurt their bottom line NEAR what was anticipated.

I have also read CCL related news that Carnival is trying to "Blend" the fuel surcharge into their fares so Carnival's goal MAY be to absorb the fuel surcharge right into the fair leaving the impression that they never brought the fuel surcharge back at all.

Honestly, I would like to see gratutities, and even things like soda cards blended back into the cruise fare. Even the beer and liquor for that matter. I would like to see a truely "All Inclusive" price when looking at a cruise vacation.

John Heald addressed the fee for lobster rumor today on the unofficial Carnival Awards video. He reiterated that there is no charge for the lobster (which won favorite main entree) and wouldn't be contrary to the rumors out there.

Iv seen the pay items on Triumph and there are 4 of them. The lobster for $18 is Maine lobster. Its just a option. Once we mentioned it to our tablemates that the steak in the box was $18, they changed their order to flat iron steak which is free.

At least the charge for lobster is the Maine lobster. I don't care for the Caribbean lobster, surely would not pay for that. I don't even order it when its on the menu, unless its cold water lobster, big difference in texture and taste. If I really loved lobster I may opt to pay the $18 for Maine ones.

The $18 is also for steak, for those who prefer steak, or surf and turf, both together. 4 items which are a cross match of lobster and steak choices. As a stock holder, if Carnival can up their revenue with options that dont affect my choices Im fine.

I wouldnt. I dont drink more then about 2 drinks per cruise and never buy the soda. I dtink the free lemonade or iced tea so my fare would be higher to subsidize the pax that do drink and buy sodas.

I'm pretty sure there is a fuel surcharge built into today's fares.

As for optional expenses like drinks etc., I have no interest in, or desire to subsidize others.

I expect that fuel surcharge to hit me on my 2 upcoming cruises.
The worst change for me is 200% rate for single/solo cabins.
That makes me hate myself for being too ugly and mean to find a spouse.

Even though I rarely travel solo these days, it still costs me 200%. I even get to pay 200% for shore excursions, tips, etc. After all that, I end up with maybe half a cabin, but certainly less than half the closet and other storage space.

The 200% is my biggest gripe too. I refuse to pay it and keep on booking solo cruises with Carnival. I have 3 more booked and then I dont plan on booking Carnival again. .... things do change, if I find someone else who wants to share, or a group I want to join .. but no plans to book with Carnival otherwise. 200% is too much.

RCL looks a lot more attractive lately.

I continue to book Carnival in that the "Fun Ships" are still a better bargin...even at 200%.
My September cruise is costing me $1000.

Did you see the news on NCL's solo cabins?

I did, but Epic has tiny cabins that when I priced them were very high. We found a deal on RCL a month or so ago, for $299 for a balcony, 0% supplement for the special 3 day Liberty OTS and tacked on a 4 day Majesty with one day in the middle, that also had a very low solo supplement. Made my own 7 day. VTG (can I say that here?, sorry if not) has a single cruisers button that shows you the solo supplement for the lowest category cabin .. you still need to click thru as it is usually a inside, and a balcony might be overall cheaper.

I would not use them to book, but they have a good way to check solo pricing. I became platinum on Carnival in only a couple of years, cruising a lot, but now its cheaper to fly to FL but more trouble, so I will probably cut back a little on how many I do a year.

Right now I have enough booked, but I would consider NCL in the future.

I don't beleive any of these "rumours", but I will say I noticed cutbacks on my last Carnival cruise (Miracle, same cruise as Skymaster).
Cheap and few were the prizes for Trivia and other games, less musicians and more recorded music, and obviously poorly trained entertainment staff, including the CD.
Not to mention the rink prices gone up, so much I didn't even drink!
We too will be taking a break from Carnival for awhile....

Ah, but that's a double standard. I am paying for dining room service I never use? I'm even tipping them. For what?

Well, maybe "All Inclusive" with liquor, beer, sodas, etc. is not the way to go, but if you could purchase a booze option like a soda card, if the price was better, I would be interested in that for sure.

Ah, the service, seat, and food are there for you to use or not. Reserved just for you. You could decide to use them and what if they weren't there?

The booze option is available for groups with some restrictions. There are some group booze cruises available but the price may shock you. Plus Carnival will cut off without refund those who get stupid drunk.

I avoid those cruises.

I don't get stupid drunk. I am not one of those people. But it seems when on vacation, I drink more than the average person.

I have never gotten myself into any kind of trouble drinking on my first 3 cruises, and I have never been "Cut off". But I have really enjoyed myself.

I know the people you refer to, and I have seen the occasional one of them.

Jan 3rd and all is quiet. I would think if there were changes of the magnitude suggested, some would be shouting from the mountain tops by now.

I think you would have to be a bit naive to believe this. If this was true, that Carnival was only going to clean your cabins once a day .. more than one person would be saying it. Seems that all this has come from one review posted on CC right .. no one else actually heard it themselves?

Carnival would have pre-announced such a huge decision.

We never got our Carnival pins on Miracle in November either. That was our 3rd cruise. We got them on our second cruise in 2008.
