Default Back To Back Cruises On Carnival

Hello--

I remember seeing a similar thread quite awhile ago, but can no longer find it, so I thought I would start a new thread.

I am an avid cruiser (over 20 cruises and now over 10 on Carnival which makes me Platinum), and will be booking my first back-to-back cruise on the Freedom this September (a 6-day and an 8-day back-to-back itinerary).

Here are my questions:

1) Will we have to disembark between the two cruises?
2) If we do have to disembark, how long will it be for, and can we leave all our stuff in our cabin without having to pack and repack?
3) How easy will it be to get the same waiter and table for the second cruise?

One thing that I may not like about booking back-to-back will be the repeat of the menus in the dining room, as well as a repeat to some of the entertainment.

Also, would like to hear the pros and cons of those who have booked back-to-back in the past.

Thanks to all that reply (much appreciated!)

I've done a number of back to back cruises. Started out just doing them on the same ship, with alternating itineraries.

But, I did find the repetition of the menus and entertainment to be a bit of a drawback. So, we started changing ships, and cruise lines, for the second leg. Once we even changed departure cities, and went from FLL to Miami on tunover day.

Our preference is to go through the bit of hassle to change ships.

Howeever, if you choose to B2B on the same ship, if you book the same cabin, you don't have to move your belongings, and you only have to leave the ship long enough to check through immigration. If you choose to, you can leave the ship for the day, and treat it as you would a port visit.

Usually, but not always. The Pursers office will have someone to walk you through the process. It won't take long.

If you do an alternating itinerary on the same ship try to do one where Key West or St. Thomas is the final port on the 1st cruise. That way you won't have go through customs or do anything between cruises (unless you choose to go ashore).

Did a B2B in March 2010 on the Triumph. Had the same cabin for both, was escourted off the ship by a purser at 09:00 through customs. Only needed to have in hand travel docs, passports or ID's, and customs declaration due to traveling a different itenarary. Had to wait with the oncoming passengers to re board. Was in the first group after the wedding parties and the assisted guest. Got back on board about 11:15, but we were able to go directly to our cabin as soon as we boarded. Per approval from our cabin steward. It was a lot of fun.

This is exactly our B2B scenario, Snoozeman. We will board Jan 30 on the Conquest (last port is Key West) and we will then start the second week with the Western Itinerary.

Do you think Carnival will be on the ball enough to realize that we won't need to go through immigration after the first cruise? If not, I'm going to do some pouting and tell them that Snoozeman said it's ok ;-)

We have done many B2B's with Carnival (including the Triumph) and on all of our B2B's ... they walked us off the ship ...through Customs and right back on the ship.

We got our Sail and Sign cards at Guest Services around Noon and then stepped over to the "ding" console to have our picture put on our Sail and Sign card.

The Triumph is the only ship that totally dropped the ball. No one should have to get off the ship and sit and wait with the new passengers. Part of the fun of doing a B2B is having the ship all to yourself for about 2 hours.

In our case, we arrived at the Lobby at 10AM per the letter....and no one showed up.

When we asked where a Purser was....one of the Entertainment Staff went to find a Purser....they came back and said "the Purser said to just walk off the ship". What????

First of all, even at 10:15AM ....the line was still inside the bridgeway.

Problem number one: No way was I going to stand in line for an hour with a child with Autism.

Problem number two: I would get to Customs with 3 of us and with NO LUGGAGE??? Try explaining that one...

I had been warned that the Triumph did not have a clue....so, when we got the "just walk off the ship"...I took matters into my own hands.

Fortunately, there were two photo guys headed out into the terminal....so the 3 of us just "hitched a ride" (so to speak) with them...past the line.

When I got to the foot of the stairs, I knew my good friend (and Carnival Rep) would be at the bottom of the stairs....and he had someone escort us to Custom and explain why we did not have any luggage.

He would have also escorted us back on the ship, but we needed run a couple of errands....so we arrived back at the terminal about 1:15pm.... picked up our new Sail and Sign cards from our friend and walked back on the ship.

Again, this had never happened before and hopefully the Triumph has gotten it fixed since October when we were last there. But I have not heard for certain if they have....

Btw, we head out for a B2B in two days on the Elation. We will see how it goes....

We just did a B2B on the Elation in December (our first). Unfortunately we did not book both legs at the same time and had to change cabins. Not a huge deal, but we did have to pack up and ask our room steward to take our luggage to the new cabin. We just kept the luggage in the cabin and he got it moved for us.

We were also sent a letter to come down at 10:00 am. By 9:15 the ship was cleared of all other passengers so we went to the Atrium Bar and sat down in full view of the service desk. At 9:30 a customer service rep rounded all of us up (about 4 or 5 couples) and walked us off the ship, and through customs. She then handed us our new S&S cards and walked us back on the ship. We had to come back at 11:00 to get our pics made and our credit cards swiped to activiate the S&S cards since the photog's were not set up yet. It was a pretty smooth process, and would have been much better had we not had to make a cabin change.

We were also concerned about seeing the same shows twice, but the big show "Win" that was supposed to be done on our last night got cancelled due to extreme rough seas, so we were glad we saw it on the first leg. We did get tired of eating though.

Sounds like the Triumph needs to get its ACT together.

Linda, sounds like you did a good job. I think I would have done this: a bit after 10:00 I would have just gone over to the Pursers and said, " I was here at 10:00 as requested, I assume all is well, if you need me I'll be somewhere on the ship". Then leave.

Triumph is the only ship Iv had issues with a B2B. They escorted us off .. and left us and we couldnt reboard.

Iv had a lot of smooth ones as well. So far mine have not really been planned as B2Bs .. like I have some cruises coming up ...and the price of the cruise after the one I have booked drops in price, I might add it later. So far I havent managed to have the same cabins twice in a row... but that's me. Im too spur of the moment with planning.

Default b2b

why book 2 b2b cruises instead of just going on a 14 day cruise?

B2B are 14 day cruises.

There are 14 day cruises out there but not as many as 7 day ones. The one that we are going on, the first week is Eastern and the 2nd leg is Western.
