Default Is Carnival the most popular line or what?

In my search for our first cruise, pretty much all cruises that would pop up were Carnival. Is it b/c of the departure ports I wanted (Florida, Alabama)? Do they just have many more ships than other lines? Just curious why those were all I would see when doing searches. [meaning when I put in the things I wanted like departure port, number of nights]

Carnival is the only cruise line that sails out of Alabama (Mobile) but they will be leaving there in few months. The exact date I don't remember.

Carnival also has the most ships sailing the Caribbean this time of year. Other cruise lines have more ships deployed to Europe and Alaska. If you do a specific search for Royal Caribbean and NCL you will see a few more options.

Take care,
Mike

Carnival cruises are typically less expensive than other lines (except maybe NCL). Most searches default to being sorted by cost from low to high.

Most new cruisers seem to start with Carnival. Carnival provides a good product, but eventually many get tired of the sameness, and branch out and try other cruiselines. Some like the sameness of all Carnival cruises being the same, the cabins are the same, the food is the same from one ship to another, etc.

RCL doesnt cruise as much from Florida during the summer months, but when it gets cold they bring the ships back to FL. Even RCL seems to be cutting back out of FL in the future from what I see.

Carnival just has more ships out of the US and dominants the market. When the do hand raises or cite statictics, clearly Carnival always has more first timers on my cruises than other lines who have better loyalty programs.

I think Carnival has been trying to shed the "party boat" image that so many people still seem to have by making their line more family friendly. With the demise of "The Big Red Boat" (anyone remember that?), and Disney being more expensive than Carnival, Carnival is a very good choice for many families that want to go on an affordable cruise.

Yep, I was on the Big Red Boat.. used to live in Boca Raton for 13 plus years, before I moved back to TX. Seemed more like a gambling boat to me, though my memories are hazy. Great price though. that I remember.

Did you have your picture taken with Bugs Bunny or Tweety Bird? Or were you too busy gambling?

All I remember is the gambling and food. I remember them walking around the casino late at night and only the big gamblers got a pass to go eat at the late night buffet for free. Some special meal only for those who the casino host thought deserved to eat. The rest of us didnt eat the late night meal.

A friend of mine who lives in Texas has cruised 31 times and always with RCI .He seems to feel that RCI is the most popular line.

Well, to say it is the most popular is a stretch...... many feel it is the best "value" for their vacation $$$$, but I personally don't see it that way.....I am not a CCL lover for certain, but many find them just perfect for their cruise vacation

Carnival Cruise Lines is definitely the most "popular" and largest. One main reason is that it encompasses all of the Carnival Cruise Lines brands. i.e. Princess, HAL, Costa, etc.

Royal Caribbean includes Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Azamara.

This is from CruiseMarketshare.com and shows the percentage of the market for each company. I can't find a break down of individual lines but I would say the Carnival, as its own brand, would be about equal or greater than Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Take care,
Mike
