Did I miss something while cruising the highly rated CENTURY to the
western caribbean Aug 19 - 26 ? I could swear the dining room service
was better on the MONARCH I sailed on in Aug 99. My cabin (5005)
wasn't that much larger than the cabin (2082) I had on the MONARCH. While the storage space was ample the bathroom was about the same size. The port hole was useless because it was recessed so far
into the ship's outer hull it was as if I were in an inside cabin. The
little details of the ship's construction made the difference between a
passenger friendly ship and little inconveniences made that much more
conspicuous. As clean and well maintained as the CENTURY is the
layout of the MONARCH was more functional for the first time cruiser.
The two story dining room with it's aft location was just as much a
curse as it was stately. The CENTURY is not at all a bad ship with
well appointed interior and decorations. It means there's much more to a successfull ship design and function than just using expensive looking materials and furnishings. While I did enjoy myself , only my second cruise, it has increased my awareness of the importance of the ship's physical details to the overall satisfaction of the cruise experience. Eventhough the atmosphere on the CENTURY exuded "quality " for the most part, it in of itself did not help me in my " exceeding expectations ".
