Default Cirque du Soliel

At least two of Celebrity Millennium-class ships will feature characters created by Cirque du Soleil beginning in December. The observation lounges will be transformed into the surreal atmosphere of "The Bar at the Edge of the Earth" for two hours every evening. In "The Bar at the Edge of the Earth," Cirque characters will emerge to greet cruise guests as old friends. For example, "The Wave Correspondent" will carry bottles containing messages from the sea and deliver them to select visitors, and "Pez Erizo," a large, round being, will wander the ship, interacting with passengers. Several other characters also are being created by Cirque exclusively for Celebrity. A Cirque du Soleil Masquerade Ball and world-class performance will be presented once on every cruise.

Celebrity to bring Cirque actors on two ships(6/28/2004)

MIAMI -- Celebrity Cruises detailed some of the onboard plans for its partnership with Cirque du Soleil.
Lounges on the Constellation and the Summit -- named Reflections and Revelations, respectively -- will be transformed in December and renamed "the Bar at the Edge of the Earth."

Unique Cirque-created characters will inhabit the bars each evening; in addition there will be a masquerade ball during each cruise.

Celebrity execs emphasized that visits to the bars would be an interactive experience, rather than a typical "show" -- where passengers will be "spec-actors" rather than simply spectators.

Bars at the Edge could follow on other ships if the concept is a success, according to Celebrity.

Doesn't thrill me--Would rather dance to a great band in the lounges...what will happen to the band venue?

The show band now sometimes plays in the Rendezvous Lounge in place of the ubiquitous rikki-tik duo. They are now designing production shows to be fully tracked with no need for the band (a bad idea) so that the show band can play more dance sets. So don't be alarmed, they'll find a place for you--and the band.

Any bets on whether there will be a surcharge for this particular piece of entertainment?
