Meyer Werft built five cruise liners for Celebrity Cruises (USA) , three of which were in the 70,000 gt plus class.At that time the "Mercury" and the "Galaxy" (77,713 gt) were the largest passenger ships ever built in Germany. Together with the "Century," delivered in 1995, as well as the two ships "Horizon" and "Zenith," built in the early 1990s, Celebrity Cruises has one of the most modern fleets in the world in service.
The cooperation with Celebrity Cruises was continued in the summer of 2005 when the cruise company placed a contract with MEYER WERFT for the first ship out of a series of 4 of the "Solstice" class. The contracts for the newbuidling nos. 2, 3 and 4 were signed in February and July 2006 and in May 2007. The deliveries will take place in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The ships will have a length overall of 315 m, a breadth of 36.8 m and will have a tonnage of 122,000 gt (Post-Panmax). 2,850 passengers will be accommodated in 1,425 cabins.
