Default Venice Embarkation Point

We are taking the Summit in October and will be staying near the Palazza Roma. Can anyone tell me how you get to the ship boarding point from there? Can you walk, if so, how far is it? If not, what form of transportation do should we use and where to we get it?

Also, we will arrive in Venice around noon the day before the cruise, then the ship stays in port in Venice for the first full day of the cruise. Any suggestions on what we could/shoud see on our own before boarding, as opposed to what we should wait and see as part of a tour?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Yes you can walk from the Palazza Roma to the port, but it is not the greatest walk and will take you about 20 minutes. Rather than walking there may be two options. One, the port usually runs a free bus to/from the Palazza Roma when ships are in port. This shuttle may be running the day you need to get to the ship. You can check with the line or go to the Port of Venice's web site. Two, take a cab from the Palazza Roma to the port. It should run about 12 euro for two people and their baggage. The taxi will take you to the baggage drop off point and you can walk to the ship from there.

If you have time in Venice before boarding the ship by all means do something! Venice is a neat place just to walk around and explore. In addition, you can take a water bus down the Grand Canal from the Palazza Roma to St Mark's square, or go to one of the many churches etc. and see the art, or have a gelatto, or just walk around. Venice is a wonderful place an your should take advantage of all your time there.

Just enjoy getting lost.. it is a wonderful magical place..one good tip .. to save money dont eat or drink in venues that have a view of a square or of water.. you will pay for the view..(Items are priced higher)
