Still would like to comment that past guest functions are really going down hill compared to my past cruises which started in the late 50,s. Where are the perks for those who have sailed many times with a cruise line and in particular those with just a few cruises on a given line.

That is why you need to read the whole thread before posting-and not just the first couple and the last couple.

I would like to get an extra luncheon from Celebrity-but since this is also a 12 day cruise-I will be happy with a stuff the laundry bag coupon.

The OP needs to realize different cruiselines have different past guest perks-and also different levels of perks depending on how many times/days you have cruised with the line.

I have 25 cruises with Celebrity and have never heard of a welcome aboard lunch, unless there is some program for the casino group who gambles alot.
Lunch is served around 11:30 at the buffett only on the first day of embarkation to all passengers. It runs all day the first day till late afternoon, because people are getting in off flights, etc. and very hungery. The lunch buffett is up top Ocean View Cafe, or whatever ship you get on, sometimes the name changes. They have a great pasta bar, serving great pesto, a deli, hidden in the very back by the area outside to eat off the aft deck, and pretty good hot dishes as well.

Hope this helps

Okay, let us know how it goes. Since we can't help you, I suggest you contact your TA or Celebrity to find out if you can join.

Celebrity does not have and never has had a welcome aboard lunch. I suspect that if you have that many people going it is basically a private function arranged by your Travel Agent or whoever is running the group. Again, Celebrity has never had a welcome aboard lunch.

Comparing your first post on this thread with your last post, something doesn't make sense.

"We are first time cruisers on Celebrity .The people we are traveling with are repeat cruisers and will be invited to the Welcome Aboard lunch . Is there any way that we can join them ? "

"Everyone in the group we are traveling with (103 people) are return Celebrity cruisers and all are going to the Welcome Aboard Lunch . "

Your first time cruises but yet everyone is repeat cruisers, doesn't make much sense.

dkjretired,
Henry43 is a repeat cruiser, however he did say it was his first time on Celebrity. His statement meant that everyone but them are repeat cruiser's on Celebrity.

Not what his statements say and it is not elementary......Still, it would be nice if he could explain the situation by telling us he is with some type of group cruise who are probably holding their own private party. its annoying trying to help someone when you only have bits of info..

Bottom line to make things easier

1. CELEBRITY does not and never has held a welcome aboard lunch for repeat cruisers.

2. YOu will not be able to join your friends on CELEBRITY'S Captains Club functions...

His explanation is right there in the second sentence...He is traveling with people that are repeat cruisers or in his own words "The people we are traveling with are repeat cruisers.... That means he is traveling with a group of people. Its self explanatory, not sure what is hard to understand

But I am positive he appriciates the info. And I absolutely appriciate any info on cruising from anybody. Like I said I have been on a dozen cruises and you never can stop getting tips from people. They may see something you were never aware of...and that's what it's all about, educating each other while having fun discussing something we all have in common, The love of cruising.

We are traveling with a group of 103 people .We only know a few of these people .If they are doing any private parties we are not participating because we are not members of their organization .They chose to open the cruise to non members and we are the only ones (my wife and I ) who have done so.
One of the 103 stated that they have cruised 10 times with Celebrity and as such will be going to a Welcome Aboard lunch . I cannot debate this at this time .When I return from the cruise if indeed there was such a lunch I will post it here .If there was not a lunch I will gladly post thaT AS WELL.

I get what DJ Retired is saying. He is simply wondering if the OP/Henry misunderstood the group of Celebrity repeat cruisers he is traveling with-that perhaps they are having a private function sponsored by whomever sponsored the cruise.

BTW, have you ever been invited to a Celebrity Repeat cruiser "Welcome Abroad" lunch?

Henry is going by how things are done on HAL, which I am not so sure he has correct since HAL called their function a "Mariners Brunch," (Mariners is HAL's term for HAL repeat cruisers) when I was invited. Of course the last time I cruised on HAL, cigarette smoke was so bad- I have not booked with them again, so It HAS been awhile, over 2 years.

My last HAL cruise was on the Zuiderdam in Jan. 2010. I remember posting to Henry who was taking the same cruise after me, his first HAL cruise in December 2010, answering some of his questions about the partial Panama Canal transit. So, perhaps HAL now offers a luncheon instead of "Mariners Brunch."

Henry, I will be on Celebrity in June, I will let you know if I was invited to a "Welcome Aboard" lunch. In the meantime contact your TA or Celebrity as none of us know.

DJ Retired you have cruised Celebrity how many times? You have always given me great info-so I am assuming plenty. Please do not let people discourage you from posting here too-there are many of us who appreciate your posts.

When I was on my last 2 HAL cruises (2010,2011) there was a Welcome Aboard Lunch and a few days later a Mariners Brunch .I attended both .

<LI class=g>This is a quote from Cruise Reviews.com .Normally I would not post something from another Cruise site but I feel ot necessary to do so in view of the above.

You told me on the HAL board that your first HAL cruise was in December 2010. My last HAL cruise was January 2010-ELEVEN MONTHS before yours. (January 2-12 2010) We debarked the day of the Haiti earthquake.

I do not appreciate being called "wrong". If anything I may be mistaken. However, I was there and I am almost positive it was called the " Mariners Brunch" for past HAL cruisers.

Now if you mean past HAL cruisers can go to the diningroom and eat lunch on boarding day instead of the lido restaurant-that is a completely different thing. HAL does not even advertise it, but yes if you show them your card and they see it is the correct color you can have a sit down served lunch in the main dinningroom.

You do not post nice. You even accused the cruisemate moderator of calling you a liar. As bad as people on other messagebaords-I do not think I have ever seen anyone accuse a moderator of calling them a liar before.

Maybe you should proofread your posts and see how they "sound."

I have cruised on the MV Horizon, MV Zenith and the Century. I have never heard of a welcome aboard lunch.

Though a meal was served in a open seating venue each time, but that was for all cruiser's not a select few.

1) My first HAL cruise was in May 2008 to Alaska .My second was in Dec.2010 to the Panama Canal. My third was in July 2011 to Bermuda .
2) I have never accused anyone of calling me a liar .
3) "Sound" is not the correct word ,one does not hear these words .
4)My thinking is that you may be one of the individuals who has posted here under other screen names .
Finally :As I have iterated numerous times the Mariners brunch was on the third day of the cruise .The Mariners Welcome Aboard lunch was on the first day .

Default They were

The MV Horizon and MV Zenith use to be in the Celebrity Fleet, I should know, I sailed on both of them some year's back. Since them they were removed from the Celebrity Fleet.

Things change ,perhaps years ago things were different .I am too saddened by the loss of a great person to debate silliness .

I am only sitting here because I cannot believe that Whitney is gone.

Henry, you are on a cruise website, with veteran cruisers....many of them including myself, have been on those Celebrity ships, under the umbrella of Royal Caribbean, but, a brand unto themselves.

Some trickster went into Wiki, and edited that.

Linda ,you certainly know more about cruising than I do .However things change .I am not going to say that meals on the Cunard line in 1973 are handled the same in 2012 .
If you look above you will see something from Cruise reviews.com regarding the Celebrity welcome aboard lunch .

I am elite on Celebrity and been on all of the ships above and there has never been a welcome lunch on the first day and this post really is on OHolland which has a welcome lunch on the first day for anyone that has been on a previous cruise and i believe that most of the others do not open their dining room on day one.

To iterate or re-iterate .I will be on Celebrity next month .If there is not a Welcome Aboard Lunch I will post so here .

There are many more important things in this world than to debate this continuously .
