Default Home again, home again, jiggety-jog

Hi everyone,

Mark and I are back from our four-day cruise to Key West and Cozumel on Carnival's Imagination. It was a lot of fun and definitely worth what we paid. But I don't think we'll be doing a shorter cruise again unless it's with a group of friends.

High points:
Overall relaxing time; delicious pizza; smooth seas; lunch at Pancho's Backyard in Cozumel; terrific maitre d' who gave us a table for two; they didn't charge us for a short phone call we made from the cabin on Mother's Day; all service was outstanding.

Low points:
Drunks screaming down the halls at 3:00 a.m.; quality of food not as good as expected; much cash lost in casino (slots very tight); much cash lost on drinks (they were more expensive than we remembered); drinks weren't that good; not enough time in either port, but especially Key West; we kept falling asleep and missing the late-night activities (our own fault).

Overall, we think we have simply "outgrown" the Carnival 3- and 4-day cruises. We kept comparing the experience to Celebrity and being let down. While we'll certainly not discount short Carnival cruises in the future, especially if we are going with our hard-partying friends (which is why we booked this cruise in the first place although they bowed out), we'll probably just save up our time and money for cruises of 7 days or longer.

I went entirely digital this cruise (forgot the backup camera - oops!) so I've already got the pictures on the computer ready to post. We followed up debarkation with a trip to the Miami Metrozoo, which I highly recommend for a post-cruise visit. I'll post my photos from there too.

Time to catch up on a few posts. Hope everyone had a good past few days.

Cheers,
Michelle B.

Welcome Back Michelle,
Nice that you were able to enjoy a short cruise, but I totally agree with you on a 7 day versus a 3/4 day one, just not long enough. Sounds like it was a nice get away for a few days, glad everything did eventually work out.

Michelle:

Welcome home!!!!

For a short cruise, you might want to try Sovereign of the Seas in the future. None of the problems you mentioned, except food never real hot. No drunks that we saw. We were even in the bars a lot as my father and I kept checking out the drink specials in between our customary scotch!

Hi Michelle,
sorry to hear about the low points. sometimes when you hit the upscale cruiseline it is hard to go backwards.
BTW, we are on our 3rd day of the cruise here in San Francisco and it has been beautiful. Celebrity of course. Take care and get to booking that honeymoon cruise.

Welcome back Michelle, I see you enjoyed Imagination's pizza as much as I did! In fact my son still talks about it - pizza at 2 am! I also have to agree, 4 days is just not long enough. My first taste of cruising was only 4 days and I was terrified of being seasick. When that didn't happen, we tried 7 days. So far so good, now I want to try 10-14 days!!

Welcome back Michelle! Glad you had a good time, sorry to hear about the low points. I have heard about the above that's why I would never book a short Carn. cruise. But at least you got away and had time with Mark

Thank you for the pictures! I always enjoy looking at cruise pictures! Michelle we had gone on a short Majesty Cruise and never experienced anything bad. I wasn't too impressed with the ship because it is older. But service was fine and the food was good. Maybe you should give RCI a try they are more geared for the "older" <VBG> people.

Welcome home Michelle and thanks for the report. Being in Florida now, I keep thinking about those short cruises. I'm glad to find out more about them. After our 11 day Hawaiian cruise it's even going to be hard to go back to the 7 day ones.

Glad you and Mark had a good time in spite of the negatives.

Thanks for the advice, Marc and Sue - we have talked about trying Royal Caribbean if we do another short cruise in the future. Sounds a little bit more our speed.

Cheers,
Michelle B.

Hi Michelle

Welcome back. You were missed. Glad you had fun in spite of the negatives and like Sue said, you had some quality time alone.

Denise

Welcome back Michelle!

It does sound like you have outgrown the cruise you described.

That's great that they didn't charge you for the phone call.

Can't wait to look at the pictures!

A very belated Welcome Home! (I'm trying to catch up on all the posts!...)

So glad to hear you made the best of it all and had a great time! I've often wondered what those short Carnival cruises would be like and if they are worth doing.

I love Miami Metrozoo! I have tons of family down in that area and that was one of our regular side jaunts when the kids were younger. It really is a nice zoo.

Parrot Jungle is a great place too. It's a relaxing afternoon spent in gorgeous tropical surroundings - and the birds are amazing. (of course I am biased because I am a parrot junkie- and I have a few of my own )

Glad you had a good (although short) vacation!

Michelle, as you know we take the 4-day cruises out of Canaveral often and again in 4 weeks. Given the two, Sovereign of the Seas or Fantasy, we find the Fantasy a much better product. I'll go on either one for the under $400 bucks it costs but we try to get on the Fantasy first.

Regards,
Thomas
