When we were on Legend, he hung around the lobby on formal night with a photographer. There were more people trying to get their picture with this "thing" than
with Mickey Mouse at the Magic Kingdom. Not to mention that he was the ultimate "chick magnet". Every young woman in a low cut dress was hanging off him to get a picture. I was thinking of changing careers but Gram wouldn't let me apply.
Believe it or not, that picture was one of the highlights of the cruise for my 15 yr. old son (he was in the other half of the photo). Although I did overhear a bunch of young teens hanging out and planning to kick him in the butt (Freddy). Personally, I thought he was rather frightening for children under 3 feet tall!
Well he's not there for the adults, he's for the kids and they love him. If you read back on the history of fantasy characters, you'll see how the women were scared to death of a large mouse called Mickey, but the kids loved him and look at him today. You guys that don't like Carnival found an opportunity to take a cheap shot, didn't you. Nice, real class.
I guess I should have been more explicit, Mike. My comment wasn't about the folks who found Funship Freddie scary or weird looking. It was about a couple of comments thrown into the mix to rub salt into the wound, as it were. He is weird looking, but I wouldn't say it's something I'd expect from Carnival or that it's another reason I wouldn't cruise with them. Have a good one.
I just got off the Carnival Glory and overall I think people like Freddy! I just thought being in that suit out on the ldio deck in the hot sun, not too comfortable! I thought he was cute!
And for all those who say another reason not to cruise Carnival, not a good comment!
My cruise on the Glory was great fun, food was as good as ANY cruise I've taken, the service and staff were really outstanding, what's not to like? And would I not cruise just because of Freddy?????? Please!
Overall, I'd be happier on the Spirit class, just in terms of layout and space, the Glory and Conquest class are definitely high density but in overall cruise and presentation, Carnival is doing a good job!
We have seen "Funship Freddy" and it didn't affect us one way or the other. The kids did seem to like him very much and that is what he is there for and what should count. The fact that Carnival does care about people of all ages is a very good reason for me to want to sail with them.
