Help! It's homecoming week at my daughters high school and on Wednesday the seniors get to wear togas........can anyone give me advice on the best way to tie a toga out of bedsheet? I'm doing a google search but thought it couldn't hurt to ask here! Thanks!

Angela,
Rent "Animal House" Just kidding. Pete is chanting "Toga,Toga". I believe that it is draped over the left shoulder and tied around the waist with a belt. A large double bed sheet works well. White shorts to be worn underneath. Am remembering college days of toga parties. Sandals are a must. A plain white T shirt also makes a good top.

The hardest part will probably be finding a PLAIN WHITE sheet!

Plain white would be way too boring to this crowd.......we've decided on a yellow and white gingham......yes Romans everywhere are spinning in their graves I know!
Thanks for the thoughts!

Since it's for a young lady, decorum MUST be preserved. Get a wide strip of elastic maybe 2") and some serious safety pins. (Diaper pins would be excellent.)

Pin elastic so sheet will be snug above her feminine charms then she can tie away.

I prefer the Helen of Troy look. Narrow with much of the sheet flowing over one shoulder. Maybe a little crown of yellow and white mums to go with it?

Do not ask how I know.

I think real Roman dominae used a brooch/clasp to secure the garment near one shoulder. It has been a long time since I studied the culture.

And before you send her off to school in her toga, look lovingly in her eyes and tell her: "Antiquis temporibus, nati tibi similes in rupibus ventosissimis exponebantur ad necem."

Translation: In the good old days, kids like you would be left exposed on the windiest crags for disposal.

Yes, I'm just kidding. I'm sure she'll look lovely. Seriously consider a Victorian type brooch--they tend to be neo-classical--reinforced with a hidden saftey pin. I think it should be near the left shoulder.

Can't help! I cheated on my Costa cruise and made a toga, I was afraid the toga would fall off as I have very narrow shoulders!

Where's Ray when you need him? Surely he and Helen have done the toga routine at some point in time!
