My wife and I are flying to Venice through Amsterdam on August 30 and we were wondering how one gets to Venice from the airport. Is it a long way out of town? What is the usual mode of transport most people take?
We are staying at a B&B called Ca' Croce right on the Grande Canal, approximately mid way between the bus station and the railway station.
There's an ACTV bus from the airport every half hour. It goes to the carpark at the head of the Grand Canal not far from the train station. From there you can get a vaporetto to the stop closest to your hotel. Fares are reasonable.
There are also boats directly from the airport to the city, but sometimes the canal is closed (nobody ever knows why), and the fares are pretty steep.
Or you can take a cab.
The bus works fine. Takes about 20 minutes. It's a close-in airport.
