Open Jaw Airline Tickets

I am curious to hear everybody's views on this. When choosing a cruise that is not round trip (which of course necessitates purchasing open jaw airline tickets) do you choose to purchase your airline tickets through the cruise line, or do you still prefer to buy on your own.

I know that purchasing round trip tickets on your own is the best deal, but, when it comes to open jaw, they can run on the high side.

Thanks in advance for the advice everyone!

Hope all are having a great weekend!

Cathy,

This one I can't vote on but it is something that should be checked both ways.

Many times the cruise air on open jaw air is less expensive but not always. It is also less hassle to go through the cruise line on these types flights because they are more complicated, especially on International flights.

For the CM Magical Mysticsm Cruise, Hong Kong to Osaka, roundtrip airfare is a respectable $1800 pp from Minneapolis but I was able to find it on my own for $927 pp, on United, with only one stop. However, I had to do some work finding it and when I initially looked it was over $2000.

Simply put: Buy your cruise: find out the cruise air price: see if you can find it on your own for less if you want to: If you can't add the air later.

Take care,
Mike

Tough question, but like Mike said I find out what the airfare is thru the cruiseline and then search it out on my own. Have found that most times the cruiseline air is cheaper than I can find.

Living here in Florida has given me another option on the Liberty transatlantic however. I booked thru Sidestep.com a one way fare and got it cheaper than the cruiseline was offering. Only kicker is that I have to drive to FLL to fly out and then drive back to Orlando from Miami after the cruise. Still cheaper and the drive isn't that bad.

I had to look and see what this was. I had no idea.

Open Jaw is the expression on your face when you see that the airfare is more expensive than the cruise. :D :D

Open Jaw air fare is when you fly into one airport and return home from another. It is very common on Alaska itineraries such as Vancouver to Anchorage.

Take care,
Mike

Its just easier for us to book everything thru the cruiseline. As Mike said, it can even be cheaper.

We shall see.....

Thanks again everyone!
