Default Airline E-tickets

This is our first time fling, and purchasing E-tickets from American Airlines.com.
My question is for those of you that have done this is:
1) When do you get your luggage tags I was hoping to get those before the day we fly out.
I like having everything filled out and ready to go, before we get there.

2)- Please fill me in on what to expect, the morning of our flight, and the airlines processes.

Thanks for your help;
David

David-

1. Your luggage will be tagged when you check-in. Make sure you have an id tag with name, address and telephone (if not supplied with your luggage they are available at any stores luggage section)

2. Arrive early, the airlines suggest 90 minutes early, I always go two hours ahead.

3. Check-in goes as follows either at curbside, or inside the terminal:

-Give the curbside attendant your confrimation number and picture ID, he will print out your boarding passes and luggage tags.

-Inside the terminal you can check-in at the kiosk by inserting the credit card, typing in your confrimation number, the boarding passes will print out. Show your ID to the attendant behind the counter who will also check in and tag the bags.

4. You may be asked to escort your bags to the security scanner adjacent to check-in.

5. You can also print out your boarding passes at home from AA.com when you are within 24 hours of departure, in which case all you need to do is check the bags (same instructions as above0, without fooling around with the Kisosk or having your pass printed at curbside)

Some tips:

Be careful not to exceed the weight limit per bag, the airlines are enforcing this to the ounce.

Carry a ziploc bag to empty pocket contents when going through security, it saves time.

When waiting to go through security if you are carrying a laptop take it out of the case as it has to go through the scanner separately.

Slip on shoes are a plus as you will be asked to remove them at security.

HAVE A GREAT CRUISE!!!!!

Default E-Tickets!

Hi David,
Doug said it all...Security is what takes the most time...so if you can get there early, you'll be way ahead of the game.

If you are one of the lucky ones chosen to have your bags searched, it can take a while...the last time I flew, they went through everything and then did the wand thing on me too. Security is very important...so you just want to allow yourself time as to not run late!

I was going to comment about the shoes too..wear flip flops or sandals, so you don't have to take your shoes off and walk on the nasty floor!

Have a great cruise...we leave this Friday and we are soooo excited!

Hi David
E-tickets are pretty much standard now when you book on-line (unless you wish to pay extra for paper tickets). When you arrive at your airline's check-in at the airport you present a photo ID (you might also hand them a printout of your flight reservation). The agent will look you up on the computer and issue your boarding pass(es).
If you are checking luggage the agent will weigh each piece and tag them and staple the claim stubs in the envelope containing your boarding passes. You will want to have your personal luggage tag affixed with your name and some address on it in case your luggage gets misplaced as is bound to happen if you fly regularly You need to be aware of your airline's (AA's) baggage policies regarding weight and size for checked and carry-on baggage. Also, if you do have carry-on it will go through an x-ray scanner with you standing there. Make sure carry-ons do not include any of the "no-nos" knives, fingernail files, cork-screws, etc., etc. Your checked luggage will also be scanned and perhaps opened for search but may contain the "no-nos" not allowed in carry-on. But, do not pack any gun or inflammables.
There is much more specifics about what is/is not allowed at your airline's website or the Transportation Security Administration's web -- < www.tsa.gov/public/ >
Hope this helps.

Ed

Hi,

The airlines won't cut off your tags. It has all of your flight information coming and going on it so thats a good thing to them.

When I flew AA in Feb- I did curb side check in-- there was a sign saying $2.00 a bag fee---- I did have that ready as a tip----somehow I dont think that they really go by that--- it was slow and I paid the 2.00 and no tip-- I thought the guy was rude pointing it out to me------- there was no one in line and the only other guy checking in next to me with another baggage guy had several bag and said nothing----------- guess if I really wanted to I could have just taken my bag upstairs and did the self check in and saved myself the 2.00 and the baggage guy would have be out the 2.00- new handling fee-------- this was in San Jose-----
Just make sure that you bags are tagged---with your name and address-- inside and out---it doesnt hurt to have a few of them on --especially on the outside - just incase one falls off-
Enjoy your trip
Cheers
April

another tip: either use TSA approved locks or cable ties on your luggage, do not use conventional luggage locks, they will get cut off if TSA decides to check your luggage. Put your cruise tags on your bags after you have flown into your destination.

Default Cruiseline Luggage tags

As I was flying in the day before my cruise, I did put my cruiseline luggage tags on my checked bags, as had been recommended to me on another cruising website. The suggestion was made because if for some reason your bag did not arrive with your flight, the airline would know to get it to the port and the appropriate terminal. Additionally , I typed up a list of my itinerary, including the Hotel we would be at the night before the cruise, as well as the cruise itinerary ports and dates, in case the airline had to get my bags to me after the cruise sailed. I put this list inside my suitcases on top of my clothing.
WHen I arrived in L.A., my huge bag did not appear on the conveyer belt, which scared the *&$% out of me. All I could think was "a 15 day cruise and no clothes"! But happily, when I went to the airline counter in the baggage claim area, they had my bag locked up.It had come in on an earlier flight than I did. Don't know how that happened. It didn't seem like there was that long of a layover in Houston!
Anyway, the airline folks said putting the cruiseline luggage tag on my bags was a good idea. Also they liked the one about the itinerary inside the bag. They felt it could have been useful if my bag had been "delayed".

Is this perhaps a very good reason to opt out of the emailing of cruise documents and opt in to the old snail mail approach? Or are the cruise lines no longer going to send the cruise luggage tags with the 'regular' mail?

Default Airline E-tickets

tip #752: put aerosols in ziplock bags in your checked luggage, not carryons. I can see the point in putting ship tags on checked luggage, but we never did it and our last cruise in Dec. we didn't have luggage tags until the porter handed them to us at the pier. Only got an e mail that we were on RCCl Jewel of the Seas. My dh makes tags listing our hotel and the ship just in case. Have a wonderful cruise, David.

[size-18]You can also check-in online at home before your flights, there is a certain amount of hours before that you can do that. Then when you arrive at the airport, you just print out luggage tags and send your bags through security, very easy.[/size]

Sorry, they make you take those off too. Carry one of those disposable sanitary wipes if you are germaphobic.

Regarding cruise tags on luggage- on our last cruise-we flew Delta, Delta made us take off all tags except the airlines tags, that is the main reason we do not put our cruise tags on our bags until we have reached our destination port. Perhaps this is an airline specific thing???

Mehawk,

"Bad Boy, Bad Boy, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when we come for you! "

This a song that gets stuck in my head for days I'll catch my self singing it, over and over again, even at work.

I've said this before, but I won't to thank each one of you for your help, and advice. It really helps in knowing what to expect, and what to do, when and where.

Happy Sailing
David
