Default Clipped Wings

In another post I mentioned Northeast Airlines, a carrier I flew on my honeymoon ,That was the first ever flight for me..1/2 hr,I and I think less then $25.00!

It got me thinking just how many airlines that are not around anymore.
Pan Am, TWA, Braniff, Carnival Air...& many regional ones, as Northeast was..

I know the list is a long one..What can you add?

One of the ones I used a lot in the past was "Eastern". Wings of Man! That was the official airline of Disney World too as I recall. I still have my Eastern credit card.

I remember Southern Airways which I believe ultimately morphed into Northwest Airlines.

And then there was Trans-Texas, which we called Tree-Top Airlines.

Ozark, Republic, Midway, Piedmont, Vanguard, Western Airlines, America West, Allegheny.

Most of them merged with other airlines but some just fell by the wayside.

Take care,
Mike

America West is still around - but owned by USAir. I flew America West in July from San Diego to Las Vegas.

I found this site, that only goes back several years, but, if you are interested, take a peek.. who knew that there were this many that went out of business...wow!

I flew Piedmont as a teenager in N.C. My fil worked for Eastern Airlines at Logan and Providence for 40 years.

Mike named the two I could recall....Ozark and Republic (I think Republic also was morphed into Northwest.) Trip mentioned TWA, that was a great airline - I flew them to Hawaii and to Texas more than once and just loved their planes.

Ah jeez Ken! As soon as I read your post about Eastern airlines that horrible song from the Disney attraction popped into my head and will probably be there for a good part of the day! (if you had wings, had wings....) Argh!

America West is in the process of having all their planes rebranded as USAir planes and have been merged into the USAir system. Much the same as all mergers. If there are any America West ticket counters or gates they will be gone in a very short time. America West Express (commuter airline that serves Vegas) out of Phoenix is the last to change over.

Take care,
Mike
