I'm North too, but our KFC is actually called PFK (Poulet Frit a la Kentucky!)
One of my favourites, but I try to resist it since it's so bad for you!

Venice,

I might be confused about the question, but here is my take on what you are saying.

In the South if you want a little hamburger that can be eaten in two bits, you go to the Krystal, but up North, you go to White Castle.

Same burger, but different names.

If you want a burger in California, go to In and Out burger. Try finding one of those in Texas or Louisiana.

I was watching a KFC commercial on tv and it struck me funny that such a big deal is made of "southern" fried chicken but you never hear of "northern" fried chicken..somewhat of an oxymoron

so once again my big sister Luanne, even when she is half way around the world, understands my twisted thought process and that;s why I love her (VBG)

I lived in the north most of my life, Lots of KFC there. Never heard of Krystal before though, nor White Castle. Now that I have moved south I am having a hard time trying to figure out who sells what. Soooo many fast food places that I never heard of before. Zaxby, Popeye, Hungry Howie, Atomic, Steak and Shake, Checker, Long John Silver. Wow!!!There is one place that is really scarce here, Dunkin Donuts. I know it is not fast food but I miss my DD coffee fix. There is one here in Lakeland. It is just not anywhere near where it is handy for me to go into on my way to work.

Cynic, you live within "wafting distance" of a KFC, how do you stand the smell?
I hate going to my bank because the smell across the parking lot is irresistable!

CHICK FIL-A For years they were only in a place called Hapeville Georgia. They then moved to the malls around Atlanta. Now you see them everywhere.

If you have one, and go inside, you should see the mural on the wall in the dinning area. That is the original business, and also where we hung out when I was in HS.

To this day, they are not open on Sunday, because of the original owner was in church every Sunday.

You never hear of a Northern Lady. They write songs about New Orleans ladies!

Sorry Luanne, but I must beg to differ.......Krystals and White Castles aren't even in the same league! Nothing like a Slider (White Castle)!

I finally thought of something that goes with the thread. How about Boston Baked Beans? Never hear of any other city with their own baked beans. A very musical food too!

I grew up on Boston Baked Beans and they do not have tomato sauce in them like they do here (gag). I remember the oven going all day Saturday while the beans in their crock simmered in their molasses and brown sugar sauce. The house was filled with the delicious aroma of beans all day. Then my Mother would steam her own homemade brown bread for us. Just a slice of heaven!

Not much for fast food here in my little neck of the woods. We have a McDonalds, Wendy's and a Subway. If I drive about 45-50 miles south I could have Dunkin Donuts, KFC and Taco Bell. If I drive about 70 miles to the west I can have all the fast food mentioned above, plus eat at one of the many chain restaurants, ie...Olive Garden, Outback, Applebees, Chilis, Long Horn.

We do have some local eateries that fill in the gaps I guess. Sometimes they are pretty hit and miss. Most of the time it is just easier and better to cook than try and go out.
