A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve – is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America', for an amount of 'up to and including their life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

I've never heard that quote before, but it's certainly well said. I too, as a Vietnam vet, salute all my brothers and sisters who have served, and are serving.

I echo everyone's thoughts. My nephew is a Lt. and he is on his way now to Ranger school after which he will be heading back to Iraq for his second tour there - this time for 18 months. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of our soldiers wherever they may be - and their families at home as well!

Please keep in mind the reason for this most precious season and holiday and remember all of our Troops who are serving in “Harms Way?. As we prepare to celebrate a new year, let us take a moment and remember our "Citizen Soldiers", past and present.
I was recently invited to attend our town’s “Veterans Day? ceremony. I was deeply honored when they asked if I would represent my fellow “Desert Storm? veterans, by laying a flower next to the wreath. I replied with out thinking, absolutely, for me this was a great honor. In attendance were veterans from every war and conflict since World War II. I took the opportunity to talk with 2 of the veterans from WW II. I Thanked them for their service to our great nation and thanked them for providing my generation with a far better place to grow up. These men were representing not only their fellow veterans, but also the “Greatest Generation? with great humility, dignity and honor. I honor them for their service and sacrifices; you see they are and always will be my “Heroes?. They left their homes and farms as young boys to free the world of tierney and returned home, old men four years later, and some never did return. I was extremely proud of the fact that sitting next to me was my oldest son; he was home, safe and sound from his combat tour in Iraq and he was asked to lay a flower in honor of his fellow “Iraqi Freedom? veterans. I was humbled and deeply moved by this event, and I am Thankful to live in a town and state that honors her Heroes. Remember when you are shopping that old guy greeting you or bagging your groceries, crippled now and aggravatingly slow, he could be one of the
American who helped liberate the Nazi death camp or fought the Japanese island to island and has never asked for anything in return, even after 60 years of reliving the war through his reoccurring nightmares. Please take a moment out of your day and say “Thank You?. These great men are dying at an alarming rate.
You never know, when it could be their last day.

God Bless al of our Warriors and may our deplyed Troops return home safe and sound this coming year and may our old Warriors find Peace in their life.

Luanne

I pray that you and your family had a joyful Christmas and that the new year will bring you everything you want.

I am looking forward to the cruise in March as our boys are going with us. My oldest will spend the day in Freeport with his mom and my youngest will be my dive buddy as we will be diving. The next day we will be snorkeling together in Nassau. That is as long as my oldest is not deployed again. But as a military family it is a way of life.

Irish,

Thank you for the good wishes, and I extend them to you and your family as well.

Your cruise sounds very exciting, and I hope you will give us a full review when you get back.

The best thing under my tree this year was Jim. No he wasn't drunk.

He was home and that just doesn't get much better.

I want to say thank you too. Irish, you put it all so well. We can never say it enough. Hope things settle down soon, and our brave troops can come home. I am so grateful for the freedom their service protects for all of us.
