I was browsing over the Carnival Dream description that was posted recently. It struck me how Carnival and RCI took very different approaches to designing their newest ships...Having the biggest seems to be the number 1 goal for RCI as well as having almost over the top features such as the boardwalk and the bar that moves around to different levels (not sure I have that quite right with the bar, I read it in a hurry and not sure I quite get it).
Carnival seems to have gone for something several thousand tons smaller, with alot less passenger capacity, that has some very innovative new features that are a bit more down to earth than RCI. I have to give them alot of credit for designing rooms specifically for families on this ship. They also seem to have emphasized their children's programs/areas and I think that will be a very smart move on their part...Although, I'm not quite sure what they will do with all of that kid program capacity at less busy kid cruising times during the school year. Again, I read these things in a hurry, but I didn't see any great new features/programs specifically for kids on the Oasis.
While I'm a big RCI fan, If I were given a choice on which new ship to sail, I would go for the new Dream. To me, the Oasis is just too huge and parts of it just look like a big, fancy mall to me. Although the outdoor theatre is very cool. Just wondering what others think of the differences in the 2 ships and if given a choice (which we'll all have next year) which one you would rather sail?? Honestly, I would still rather sail on one of the more medium sized ships of either of these lines than either of these 2 new ships...Although, I think I could easily be talked into the Dream!
