Heck; If we needed a vacuum my wife would love one for Christmas.

I've already given Betty her present. A new snowblower and she loves it. I guess it's for both of us but she loves not shoveling late at night.

I have one other thing for her but she won't get that until Christmas.

Take care,
Mike

I just want to point out, that were it women in that "comedy piece".... nobody would be laughing.

I have several friends who are presently experiencing domestic violence, both on the giving and receiving ends. IT IS NOT FUNNY. Period.

One of those friends decided to take a baseball bat to her common-law husband for some reason. He did nothing in retaliation. She maintains it's okay to do so, and deserves no consequences, because she's the weaker sex. She was sentenced to six months in jail, of which she served a week. It was her 8-year old daughter's testimony that put her away. The kid witnessed everything.

I have to agree with Bo, bashing males has become all too acceptable and women have erected a huge double standard as a result. Depictions of women subjected to violence becuase their partners gave the wrong gift would cause a torrent of well deserved outrage. If any other groups were subjected to the stereotypes that are now applied to males there would be a massive outcry by human rights groups.

I have always subscribed to the sage advice about buying my spouse gifts; nothing that plugs in, has a direction book or a household use.

Gentlemen, So sorry the video offended you. That was not the intent, and while I did feel the video was humorous, I would hope that no one would think it is OK to prepetrate violence against another person domestic or otherwise, male or female.

I am certain that you didn't mean to offend and I wasn't extremely offended. I guess I am just getting weary of the incessitant stream of "men are clueless" jokes and slurs that are so popular among women, yet would not be tolerated if the tables were turned. What's good for the goose is good for the gander (especially the poor old gander ).

I have to say that the marital joke factory does run both directions, at least in our house anyway, but then again my husband would be delighted to share with you the fact that I give him plenty of material, so neither one of us gets away with much around here. I have given him many years of entertainment, much of it at my own expense

Just because I thought the video was humorous doesn't mean that we think all men are clueless. If I thought that, I wouldn't have married one, and stayed with him as long as I have.

Beenie....

I'm not offended. We all have things happen in our lives that at one time or another have been the target of comedy. No question there's serious issues that people are forced to deal with, that can sting when they're dealt with in a comedic fashipn. But if we lose our sense of humor, and stick to everything PC there wouldn't be much left in our lives to laugh about.

Parody is an integral part of comedy; taking real life situations, taking them to extremes, and making fun of them. We have to laugh at ourselves too. It's not only funny when it's about someone else.

Though I am glad it was you who slipped on the ice and fell on their butt, not me No doubt there's plenty of people who'd have laughed if they'd seen the video. But, at the same time, none would have wished it ended in injury to you.

BeenieWeenie,

As one who constantly makes fun of himself in a newspaper, I thought your video was humorous. I have no problem laughing at myself and with what I witnessed in over twenty-seven years "on the job," I have no problem laughing at my own gender as you have no earthly idea just how stupid men can really become. Now, before the hate replies start pouring in, having said that, it has not escaped me that the male of the species is routinely and unfairly made to be the idiot on Television. It's just that it doesn't upset me.

As for your question, Fran already has the most magnificent present she could ever receive, MOI! She couldn't possibly want more than that!

Being the type who understands our rather diminished social and financial capacity, I told her it would do wonders for my psyche were I to see in our driveway Christmas morning with a huge red bow attached, a vehicle which would replace our eight year old Grand Am. When Fran asked which one I'd like I replied to the effect that I desired something similar to what my niece over in Clinton drives and I didn't care whether it were to be the Lincoln Navigator, S Class Mercedes, Porsche 911 or their newest acquisition, a BMW 18I. I don't know why, but she instantly convulsed into hysterical laughter that lasted ten minutes. Geesh, inasmuch as Fran has the best in life, shouldn't I be entitled to something of merely fractional value?

Todd

Beenie, I tell my DH that his surprises "scare me" so I tell him EXACTLY what I want for Christmas! This was a result of him buying me (on our 2nd Christmas together) an oil pump, cam shaft, crank shaft, AND gaskets for my 1967 Chevelle. And to think...... he was so pleased with himself! Now granted, my little 6-cyclinder Chevelle needed all those parts, but not for Christmas!

I certainly wasn't offended (I don't offend easily) and regardless of what anybody says, even though I've never had the privilege of meeting you in person, you are one of my favorites here on the CM site. Me and the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) will buy you a cold one, and sit down for a chat anytime. We look forward to that day! Keep the humor coming!

Humourous parody, indeed.
I double dog dare anybody, Kuki included, to reverse the gender of that thing and post it in public.
Be sure to include your home address and phone number.
Go on, do it........

Offended? I do see the point the poster had regarding the results of reversing the roles in the video, but I am dissappointed that we have become a society such as this. What i mean is that we used to be able to laugh and not try to find some deeper meaning in such a piece.

I do not recall ever seeing an increase in violence to coyotes just because the roadrunner bashed one everyday of my childhood.

My wife and I try to get each other some small personal item each year. We are blessed and can pretty much get each other whatever we need, (not want) throughout the year.

It's a great video and very funny! There are some people who just don't get or appreciate that kind of humor I suppose. But especially for people who work in the medical, social service or law enforcement field this IS our kind of humor...Gallows (sp?) humor. If we don't have a way to joke about some of the things and people we deal with, we WILL lose our minds...I never expect everyone to understand that but it's just the way it is.
