Default What's your favorite day on a cruise?

I love the first full day at sea. It's relaxing, beautiful and there are endless possibilities.

* Wake up around 8am. Throw on work-out clothes and bring your towel. Either walk on the jogging path or go to the gym. Throw your towel on a lounge chair by the pool or forget it. You'll never get one. (yes, they say not to do that. I go with the other 2000 folks who do it)
* Go to the buffet, sit on your balcony or go to the dining room and enjoy a wonderful breakfast. I can honestly say that Royal Caribbean has the best bran muffins in the world. You cannot beat fresh fruit on any cruise ship...yummy.
* Hit the shops and check out that day's deal. Maybe play bingo and win a free cruise.
* Throw on your bathing suit and lay on your lounge chair. There are a multitude of waiters who are happy to hand you a frozen daiquiri, bucket of beer, etc. Or belly up to the poolside bar and chat with others.
* Add more sunscreen. That hot Caribbean sun and being in the middle of the ocean will bake you fast. Take a dip in the saltwater pool but don't forget to shower off - there are many fresh water showers next to the pool.
* Go eat lunch! Get out of the sun and enjoy lunch at any of the dining venues.
* Back to the sun until 3 or 4pm.
* Take a nap.
* Now primp! It's the first formal night and you want to look your best. I suggest an updo in the hair salon and perhaps a pedicure for the ladies. (or the men...this is 2008 after all.) There are two formal nights so i save my best for the second one. IF you are on a NCL cruise, you can forgo formal attire IF you wish. I recommend it..it's fun and you can get awesome pictures!
* Take your obligatory pic on the way to the dining room. If you like it you can buy it.
* Enjoy a wonderful, wonderful dinner. Make a grand entrance all dressed up.
* Cruise ships have awesome entertainment. See the show after dinner.
* Go back to your room and change. (i recommend this)
* Go to the Casino, Disco or just hang out under the stars and have a drink.
* The next day you'll be in port, so enjoy this day!!

How about y'all?

The first day is great.....looking around and finding everyplace....very exciting
Unpacking....not so much of a fun time

The formal nights are so wonderful...just seenig all the other passangers all dressed up.

The last morning is just a drag...

Our last cruise in May 2008, we had a van pick up the group, so there wasn't that hurry and get in line like cattle. We took our time and met the driver, got our luggage and took a relaxing drive to the airport. I would recomend this to everyone.

You are very welcome

We also had the same van company, Ace Tours, pick us up at the airport when we arrived in Ft. Lauterdale the day before the cruise. They took us to our hotel, then picked us up the next day and took us to the ship. So much better than the busses from the cruise lines. There was 30 of us and we just loved it.

Anything that can make those times less hetic.

I'm jealous of you both. We just built a our dream home and so for right now cruising is out of the picture. You can imagine how hard that is for someone who'd a real cruising addict like yourselves. It sucks!

So glad you've only got 3 days Pocono! Darlene, it'll be here soon!!

For me it would be hard to pick a favorite day, they are all great except the day you have to leave the ship.

Good topic, my two favorite times are first that moment when you step from the boarding ramp onto the ship. I always look at the space between the ship and pier. The second is the life boat drill. I know it sounds funny but it is the start of the cruise and the beginning of a great time. Mike

While getting onboard is excellent. I really don't feel totally destressed and settled in until day 3. From that day on is my favorite.

Mike - I love that first step onto the ship, all the time trying not to get down on my knees and kiss the floor!

Kuki - my hubby has the same reaction. We do fly into port the night before the cruise but it takes him a good 3 days. Me - there's something about crossing the gangplank to make me instantly relax.

Truly the best day is when you walk up the ramp and board that beautiful ship. Everytime Ive cruised Ive always gotten that feeling of being on top of the world. There is no other feeling like it.

I love it when we are with first timers. As soon as we board the ship I say..."LOOK UP"

It is so amazing to them everytime and they always say "Is this the ship? It looks like a hotel"

Not to be redundant - but that moment you step onto the ship can not be beat. And then the sailaway. Day oen is wonderful and it's all good til they kick you off (or start making all those disembarkation announcments

I like OPs description of a wonderful day at sea though.

The first full day on the ship is my absolute favorite day. Embarkation day is too filled with excitement for the relaxing to start kicking in. The second day watching the sun rise with a fresh glass of juice, smelling the fresh ocean air before the ship really wakes up is my favorite part. How can you screw up a day that starts that way??? You can't help but say "Gosh, I'm blessed to be able to live this life."

I also enjoy the first full day at sea. Embarkation day is a bit stressful, especially if it involves flights too. I like to relax, soak up some sun, enjoy a great breakfast, and just take in the wonderful sea.

Later that day I can take a cat nap or read then enjoy dinner in the dinning room. I dress appropriately, but not too fancy.

I love every day...

It really depends on where we're going. When I was in Europe, every day was phenomenal because I had never been. Once we left, my favorite days were the ones spent in Italy and Greece.

As far as the ship goes, I live for the nights I'll always remember dancing away with the friends I'll never forget. Love formal nights because I love dressing up.

In general, I love embarkation day. I am destressed as soon as I get my suitcase unpacked and I'm then ready to roll with a good time The thrill of stepping on that boat is the same exhilarating feeling every time!

I love embarkation day; a time to reacquaint ourselves with the ship and the crew. After that, my favorite time is around the 9th or 10th day as I will be in a routine and forgotten (somewhat) about work.

9th or 10th day, you lucky guy!! I'd like to have more cruises that keep me on the ship until my 9th or 10th day!

I would say the first day, or in the vernacular, embarkation day. There is always the excitement of who you are going to meet and who is going to be at your table during the dinner seating. For those that are on a ship they have never been on previously, it is fun just to learn, "the lay of the ship", rather than "the lay of the land". Everyday on a cruise brings some excitement and I consider the whole cruise experience to be fabulous!

I was going to say emabarkation day, because of the excitement and being able to look forward to the whole week ahead, but on 2nd thought, I'd have to say the first full sea day, because, as the OP says, you can just relax and do, or don't do, anything you want!
As with everyone else, I hate the last morning when it's all over. So sad.

I agree with all of you! I just always love days at sea because I could care if I ever got OFF the boat. The ports are nice, but it's the ship that I love more than anything.

I remember my first cruise - it was 1987 and I was on the inaugural sailing of the Carnival Celebration. I thought that ship was huge. Of course, I was young and with a friend and we ruled the ship. Now, I'm a little older and wiser and still rule the ship. (Well I like to think so...don't ruin my dream!)
Kidding.

I just enjoy every minute of the planning, checking out the ship, the port, the pics, who's sharing the ship on my cruise, etc. Other than my God and family, it's what I love more than anything in the world!!

Mary

I love all the days on a ship but my very favorite day is when we are just sailing with no phones and no business to attend to --I love the relaxing feeling that we get when sitting on the deck and watching the sea.

oh yeah, my other favorite part is also getting on board crossing the gap between the dock and ship adn then entering the ship where I immediately say "Honey, I'm Home!"..... (usually gets a wide eye stare from the passengers and a laugh out of the crew).

The day I don't have to tell the waiter what I'm drinking - and that had better be the day that we leave port (I give 'em a couple of hours to learn my drink )

I love to board before noon on the first day. I love the excitement of watching people get onboard, having my first beer, seeing which hot single chics are getting onboard and getting situated. But really that first sea day is the best. Just one big pool party! 8)
