Default Large wave smacks cruise ship in Drake Passage

Check this amazing video taken of the Celia II this AM from the National GEO. Explorer! DW and I were in these waters aboard the HAL Ryndam a few years back . The Drake passage is always very, very rough but 30 footers are rare and nasty.

You can't avoid these rough seas if you want to see Antarctica though.
Landlocked in Denver, but cruisin every chance we get.

The best thing I can say is: "Bummer". I wouldn't want to be on that ship. At least they had partial engine power to keep it into the waves instead of broadside.

What I find hard to believe is that the ship would not have a satellite phone on board. It should be standard issue for every ship.

I hope everyone makes it safely to Argentina.

Take care,

I am heading to Antarctica in January, 2012; sure hope we don't have an experience like this.
