Default Email from Costa

Got an email from Costa this morning with "special rates" for HAL Guests and *gasp* Kid's sail free.

ALthough we are already booked on DCL for next spring break, but I priced out a 10-night Caribean on Costa and with a B9 Balcony, it was coming to $2700 for the 4 of us.

Where does Costa fall the spectrum of cruising? Woudl they be superior to HAL or on par? What other lines would you put as comparable to Costa.?

I would imagine smoking to be closer on par with other cruiselines. MSC, an Italian line, used to have a lot of smoking and had a reputation for it. They've really tightened the belt too. Yes, lotsa pasta, but it's NOT a requirement!

If my memory serves me correctly, one of the SOTON based cruisers - I think it was Alan - says they are a very Italian orientated cruiseline and not all non-Italians are comfortable with that.

Recently in my region of the UK, a TV series on Costa was screened and the impression I had was that it was very Italian.

As a non-Italian European, it would not be my first choice (BTW I love Italy and speak a fair bit of Italian) but to be fair I don't rate HAL highly either. BTW I was spoiled on my first cruise - Azamara.

You have young children - unless there was megabucks of a price difference, I would stick with DCL - JMHO.

Very interesting - thank you for the feedback.

A deal isn't always a good thing, especially when it comes to cruising.

I have never sailed Costa, but over the years, I have read there is less smoking onboard in the Caribbean, then in Europe.

Also, a very well traveled friend of mine, stated her Costa cruise, was one of her best cruises. You want to weigh all the pros and cons.
