Default Something Interesting

A cousin of mine is into Genealogy .She found out tonight that my father came to the US on the Cunard Carmania ,the first luxury ship of the fleet .

An uncle came on the HAL Noordam ,the very first Noordam ,not the current one.

Fun facts! My mother, grandparents and uncle came from Belgium on the Cunard Caronia in 1925. I still have a framed lunch menu, including smoked tongue, sheeps' head broth, fried calf's feet with tomato sauce and beetrot!

I'll take the Pinnacle on HAL or Sabatini's on Princess any day!

It's very interesting to find out where you've come from...There are two shows on about celebrities doing this..Friday night, Who do you think you are,and on PBS, on Monday nights. On one side of my family, I have been able to find out we go back to 1750, in Lyon France. They make it look easy on tv, but, it takes digging, and, boy, it's fun to dig..So may of our ancestors boarded ships to come to find the streets paved with gold.

My son gave me a menu from the RMS Quen Mary, from July 2, 1938. Lucky diners could select from some choices such as:

Thuringer & Liver sausage
Boiled halibut w/ cream sauce
Sweetbreads w/mushroom sauce
Roast haunch of mutton

I'll take a bologne sandwich, thanks very much

My family came here in the early 1900's from Italy I am do not remember the ship. My cousin has the manifest. I will ask her. I was surprised to learn that they did not come through NY at Ellis Island. They came right to Boston at Charlestown. My father once told me that when my Grandfather sent for my Grandmother he walked from Melrose to Charlestown to get her when she arrived and they walked back to Melrose that was in Sept 1908 and they were married in December 1908.
