What would you do ?

Scenario:

You worked for a company for 30 years ,nobody has worked there longer than you have . You are number 3 in the hierachy and have more responsibilities than anyone except the number 1 person .
One day you are called into the office of #1 and are told that for economic reasons you are being laid off . A few weeks later you find out that your job has been taken by a person who worked directly for you . There is inference among the company employees that the person slept with the #1 person to obtain your job . You have trouble believing this as this person was a good friend for the past 10 years both in the confines of the company as well as outside .

What would you do ?

a) Confront the person

b)Confront your former boss

c)Confront both

d) Do absolutely nothing

e) Write a novel based on this but first post something on a message board requesting feedback .

My first thought would be: None of the above.

What would you do ? Hire a lawyer.....because....you damn well better have concrete proof.

a) Confront the person Be prepared to duck!

b)Confront your former boss Be prepared for security to escort you out of the building~

c)Confront both Be prepared to duck twice!!

d) Do absolutely nothing Doesn't sound like you.

e) Write a novel based on this but first post something on a message board requesting feedback Be prepared to be served....call that lawyer.

The OP is fictional . I am writing another book.

Lisa March 30th, 2013 03:14 AM

Ahhhh, if this is fiction, then there would have to be a confrontation or two, but I would back it up with hiring a PI to investigate and get evidence before confronting them.

Hire Magnum P.I. to get the straight scoop, then prepare to become the C.E.O. of the company, after settling the lawsuit and being paid 45 million dollars in damages, and buying out the company.

If you are writing a book you can do anything wish.

In real life there would be little or nothing that could be done.

1. Unless you are covered by a Union contract or Official Company policy you can be terminated for just about any reason. Forget about "Official Company Policy". Position eliminated is the most common reason for termination. The person who takes over the position will just have a different title and slightly different job description.

2. Just because someone else takes over a position doesn't mean anything. The truth is that people end up making too much money and are expendable.

3. Innuendo, personal opinion, office gossip and rumor are worthless in a court of law.

4. If there isn't a paper trail or strong witness testimony to say that the person was terminated in order to give another person the job, in exchange for sexual favors, then you just look for a new job. Even if the subordinate had had a relationship with the boss there must be evidence of collusion that the person was terminated in order to give the subordinate the position because of the sexual relationship.

Have fun writing.

I love to write.:D So here's now I would handle this. The man who was fired hired a lawyer. While at the appointment he see his beautiful female co worker who was fired a week before him at the same office. The lawyer takes his money, but it turns out the lawyer is friends with the evil CEO and never takes the case to court while eating into the man's reserve money for fake lawyer's fees and expenses. Distressed the man goes to a bar and meets the beautiful female co-worker. Since he is a bit tipsy he finally has the courage to buy her a drink. Turns out she was fired because the boss made a move on her and she rejected him. The lawyer did the same thing to her and now she is jobless, broke and about to lose her place. That's when he discovers his friend, who is also a single mother and couldn't afford the job, don't sleep with the boss to take his job she slept with him because she knew she would be fired if she didn't. So the three of them stage a coup to get not only the evil CEO but the corrupted lawyer as well. I could have so real fun with this story.;)

Many years ago I wrote an outline for a book. Set in a boarding house in Miami, in the 20's, with the building boom going stong, ending with the 1926 hurricane, which brought everything to a halt.

I had a list of the characters names, and, a back story for some. I have to say, if I read the synopsis for this book, I would buy it from Amazon, right now.

Creating all the story lines one has to, and intertwining them to make an interesting story, with all the characters involved, was difficult, so kudo's to anyone who can do it well.

The only book I ever wrote is being sold on Amazon now by a rare book dealer in NY .
I've written poetry and short stories that were published and 2 plays that were presented in NYC .

LakersFan - did you follow me during my outside working years??? This is so similar to what happened to me and the place I use to work for 20+ years!!!

I was laid off for several weeks about a year before I left the company. My duties were passed out to several workers under me. There were a few workers under me that were literally UNDER the boss on more than one occasion (child and DNA test prove it!). There were drugs and deals made that were not for me and my morals. I left after 20+ years because I could see this company was headed for the skids and a few years after I left the company closed and filed bankruptcy. The person who replaced me was new to the company, worked for a few years at that company and is now serving time for embezzlement at the next company she worked. It is a novel for sure!

Hope you have fun writing this story!!
