Default Niagara Falls

I'm surprising my husband with a trip to Niagara Falls for his 60th birthday next month.

We're staying on the Canadian side.

Any suggestions on what we should do, where we should eat, what are "must" sees?? We like adventure, but not into hiking, camping, etc.

I would appreciate all comments.

Thanks!!

In my opinion must do things are 1) see the falls at night for the lights 2) visit Niagara-on-the Lake 3) drive the Niagara parkway all the way to Fort Erie and back 4) visit at least one winery. if you like honky-tonk then spend some time on Clifton Hill.

Last time I visited Niagara, I had good luck at the casino. I came out 500 bucks ahead.

It's been probably thirty years since our last visit but my late wife and I made numerous visits to Niagara Falls, always staying at the same motel on Clifton Hill right in the center of almost everything. I'm sure it's long gone, replaced by something more upscale. At that time, the Canadian side, unlike the American, was absolutely gorgeous and immaculate. I am sure it's only got better.

As Manuel stated above, the light display on the Falls is not to be missed. Then there's the almost obligatory Maid of the Mist boat ride and the tour where everyone dons what amounts to North Atlantic slickers and gather literally behind the falls. They used to also have the then expected Amusement attractions such as Madame Tussaud's (Sp?) Wax Museum, etc. but all well presented.

Also featured are marvelous restaurants one of which (I hope it's still there) I forget the exact name but it was something along the lines of the Old Stone Inn (at least it had the word "Stone") and from which I managed to get the most fantastic scallop recipe (it had a cream sauce as I remember) I've ever used. Sadly, it was lost long ago.

Finally, if you have the time and inclination, you might find it worthwhile to drive to Toronto (the cleanest city (at that time at least) that I have ever visited) and see Ontario Place where they have the most marvelous hands-on science museum I've ever seen as well as a military display that features one of the last of the famous Tribal Class (very large) WWII Destroyers that was used in the North Atlantic war against the German U Boats, just to name two attractions.

Hope you find this both accurate and useful. I'm sure more recent visitors could update you vis--vis the above.

I know you will love your visit.

While your driving on the parkway, you'll see the "Clock Garden"??? and the "Cable Car" over the gorge. They've always stuck out in my mind.
