It's getting close to 11 PM and we are still doing OK. Our power is still on.

Glad you fared so well, Manny.

Our electricity went off around 6:00pm, which we knew would happen. That's why we took everything out of our refrigerator and freezer, and brought it with us. Now it's a guess to see how long it'll be out.

But here's the funny thing; that damn hurricane will be coming straight towards Huntsville! We're suppose to get about 4 to 5" of rain and up to 45 to 50 mph winds! Go figure!! We leave Florida to escape the hurricane and the damn thing follows us up here! So, we'll be stuck here till at least Wednesday or Thursday. Then again, our daughter wants us to stick around for the weekend, so we she can take us to the big Octoberfest they're having. Hopefully, the house is fine and we'll be able to stay a while longer.

We'll find out tomorrow. In the meantime, all we can do is wait and keep our fingers crossed.

Pete

Good early morning

It's getting close to 3AM and we are still doing OK. We have been having a lot of rain and a lot of wind for many hours. The street in front of our house looks like a river. The good thing is that our house is still intact and we still have power.

Pete, I hope that your house is OK, and that things don't get too bad in Huntsville.

Good Morning

Well it looks as if Florida dodgers the bullet, yes I know there is damage but nothing like people were expecting to see. Trees, power lines, debris and flooding is nothing compared to what could of been or what was thought to happen. I hope everyone's damage is minimal and things get up and back to normal. I do know that some did lose homes so not to take away from that .

Pete the storm is following you....stay safe!

Thanks, Robin!!

Just got word from a great friend who went by our house to check it out and see how we did.

The center of the hurricane was predicted to go right over our house as a Category 4 with 140 mph winds and a 6 to 9' storm surge. This would have been devastating, as we sit at 8'. Luckily for us, the center went ashore earlier than predicted and moved about 30-40 miles east of us. This slight change in the path made all the difference, as it downgraded to a Category 2 with less wind and surge. Grey sent us pictures and everything is fine with no major damage. The only thing that needs attention is our reverse osmosis water system that broke away from the house, which is a quick and easy fix of pvc piping. The storm surge was much less than predicted and only came within inches of the bottom of our dock. The surge was our biggest worry, along with the screened-in lanai and the roof.

While we're still without power and probably will be for a couple of days, our new house survived very well and we can now take a deep breath.

Unfortunately, as I mentioned, now we're watching the remnants of Irma head right towards us in Huntsville, so it'll be a few days before we can head home. May even wait until Monday, so we can attend the local Oktoberfest and celebrate our good fortune with family.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers!!!

So, today arrives with very mixed feelings; while we're so very thankful we were spared damage to our home, today also brings a time to mourn a very tragic moment in our nation's history. We bow our heads and remember those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. We will never forget.

Pete

Good afternoon. We lost power last evening and just a bit ago it was restored, a group from Michigan fixed the problem. We have a large generator so this morning Bruce set it up. One nice thing was the tv in the living room worked so I was able to watch the news. Sat all of us at Jennifer's decided to come back to Ft Pierce and they have all left for Tampa awhile ago. I am sure it will take them awhile to get home. Their neighbor called and said on that there was no power and that only the trumpet tree came down but did not hit anything.

From what the news was saying about 6 million people in the state lost power, that is a lot.

I hope that Manny is okay.

Good news, Nancy.

I just talked to Manny. He and his wife are all right. No damage to their home. They have no electricity but are in good shape otherwise.

Glad to hear that CM's are safe and damage is minimal! It could have been so much worse, but it was plenty bad enough! Take care to all!

Talked to our neighbor this morning and they're still without power, which also means no water. They said could be another few days.

The local grocery store is open, but no water, no ice, and no bread.

None of the local gas stations have gas, so people with generators who didn't have a huge supply of as are losing their power.

The main road going north out our neighborhood is still flooded, so that road is closed making for a long way round to the next main road headed northbound.

But he said overall everyone is in good spirits, because they know how lucky they were to dodge such a huge bullet that was predicted to hit them head on and that damage in our immediate neighborhood was relatively minor.

So, looks like we'll be staying in Huntsville probably until Monday, since there'll be lots of traffic heading south and very little gas available right now.

Glad all our Florida CM's made out well - could have been alot worse.

Pete

Enjoy your family, Pete. Glad that you got out when you did, and glad you only have minor damage.

Thank you!!

I just heard from a friend who went to Atlanta to stay for a few days and is driving home today. I heard from him at 5:30pm that he left at 8:30am and only got 300 miles in 9 hours - that's an average of less than 35 mph on an interstate highway!! And he's only half way home! Said he called a couple of hotels and everyone he called were booked, plus gas is in short supply. Told me he wished he would have stayed for another day or two, so I'm glad we decided to stay here until Monday. Plus the fact that after 4 days, we still don't have power or water.

We're retired, so it's not a big inconvenience for us, but I really feel for those that aren't as fortunate. What a mess. But even with everything Florida went through, it's nothing like what the Houston area went through.

No, Houston got it bad. I have two friends in Houston. They live in different parts of the city. Both lucked out and got no damage though.

Good evening.

All is well here in town. We got our power back this afternoon and our landline as well. Cell phone only works in certain areas because they lost five towers in this area.

I'm happy to see the Pete and Nancy also made out OK.

Very glad to hear that our Cruisemate friends are all OK. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who will need weeks, months and perhaps years to rebuild their lives. Last month our cruise made stops in Grand Turk, St. Martin and St. Kitts. To see the destruction, particularly of St. Martin, is so sad knowing that tourism is major for their economy. I hope that our Canadian Government gives not only monetary aid but assistance in the rebuild.

Just got word that after 4 days the power was finally turned on at our house about 30 minutes ago!! Yeah!!!

But we're not in a hurry to get home.

As I mentioned, I had a friend leave Atlanta yesterday and it ended up taking him 16 hours in what normally would be about a 7-1/2 hour drive. Said traffic on I-75 was ridiculous and gas was in short supply.

I talked to a neighbor today and she said some gas available in our area, but lines are long and tempers are short. Still having short supplies of some groceries items.

So, we're still glad we decided to wait till Monday to leave here and hopefully, by then we won't encounter any delays or problems.

Pete

Pete they are saying that they may have to close I75 because of flooding so staying until Monday is a good idea.

One of my friends decided to permanently move from NY to Fla and arrived at her new home 2 days before Irma.

She happily told me that she is fine although she lost power . She said she loves Fla.
