Personally I always search all the internet sites I can find then I go to my local TA. To date they have always been able to match any deal I have found anyplace else.
Now one word of advise/caution. Make sure the quotes you are getting on the internet are for your age and your state. Cruise lines do offer some discounts to seniors over 55 and from time to time they offer deals for residents of different state. I once hear that one online TA was selling you a cheap ticket where they applied the senior discount or the state discount. For sake of arguement lets say they applied the discount for being a senior from Flordia. They beat every other quote by at least $100.00 but you are not a senior nor are you from Flordia. When you get to checkin line and they verify your passport or DL and birth cetrificate and learned you were not from Flordia and you are not over 55 they can and most often will charge you the additional $100.00 plus at the peir.
I have learned that any TA of reasonable size can get the same price. My father always told me if a ham cost 98 cents a pound in Philadelphia is should cost nearly that much in New York. What he was saying was watch out for extremely low proces. There is almost always a catch somewhere.
Actually if what I have heard is correct in the near future cruise lines will not allow anyone to advertise discounted rates.
We're leaving tomorrow for Venice for a 7-day cruise on Sunday (on the Costa Med). I got my rate on icruise.com and got an extremely good deal. At first I was a little worried about the price being so low, but I was able to confirm the reservation directly with Costa quickly, and I got my tickets just fine, with the right cabin number.
I have heard rumors that icruise is difficult to deal with if you have to contact customer service. I called them once to ask where my tickets were, and ended up playing phone tag. But the website works, the prices are good, and I can say that my purchase went well, at least.
My husband and I were just on the Costa Atlantica at the invitation of
Costa Cruise Lines. My husband is a cruise specialist and the purpose
of the cruise was to meet the new president/CEO and all the regional
sales directors. They have made some great changes and told us about
some new and exciting plans for the future. ***edited to remove commercial content*** Take care and I hope you enjoy your next
cruise as much as we enjoyed ours.
