The captain on the Costa Magica pronounced it like Coast-a (as did the cruise director). I think that would be a long o sound? But maybe that was just their accent. I pronouce it like Cost-a.

I go for Cost-a & want to see the Costa Fortuna renamed Costa Fortune
They are going to keep the name Costa Fortuna. After all this is Costa Crociere (Italian name)

Of course if Emeril Lagasse were to pronounce it, it would be "Cawster" ;-)
I grew up knowing a family named Costa, in NY. They pronounced it "Cahsta". However, I also knew a man who ran an outrageously delicious Italian restaurant/pizzeria in Hyde Park, NY, who happened to be a former chef for Costa Cruise Line from the early 1960s through the early 70s. He pronounced it as Paul said, like "Coast-ah".
