Default Join without C1/D visa????

Hi , can someone please give me some advice again?? i been having problem getting the C1/D visa bcoz of my letter of employment . last week my hiring partner told me that someone at cruise company is trying to sort out my visa problem and he told me to wait for his reply. today got a sms from the hiring partner saying that i dont need visa anymore and i can join the ship without the C1/D. i didnt ask him about who told him that i can join without the visa but as far as i know...all crew need the C1/D...is it correct?

am i breaking the law ??is the C1/D only for when i enter the country??

i am not going to work in US water ..but i just worry if someone at the crew office will check and see if i got the C1/D when i sign on the ship...am i going to get into trouble??should i call the company and confirm rather than just listen to what the hiring partner said???

please can someone who working or worked on a cruiseship give me some info/advice.thanks you alot.

You don't need C1/D Visa if your ship's itinerary doesn't visit USA.

But you may need other visa (Schengen if your ship visits european country).

Schengen visa is only for people from certain countries. People from EU (like op) do not need it!
It used to be the case that RCCL required you to have a C1/D so that they could transfer you to a US based ship if they needed to. Now that they have some ships (I think it's 4 at the moment) that never set foot in the US perhaps that's changed? Not having the C1/D will certainly limit the amount of ships that you could go on. Also, haven't you paid out for the C1/D already? I'd be pretty annoyed having paid for something not getting it because they can't be bothered getting you an original LOE.

Join a cruise lime that operates solely outside US waters. Some low end European cruise lines operate in the Med only and some of the larger cruise lines have ships based in Asia now. Depending on your immigrant visa type, you might not need the C1/D anymore anyway.
