I felt the same way as I prepared for our cruise! Hated to pay the price for a dress that I "would only wear once"! I purchased a nice pair of dressy slacks and top (I NEVER wear dresses in REAL LIFE), then after thinking about it, I purchased a couple of INEXPENSIVE cocktail dresses - both short. So far, we have been on 3 cruises to the Medit. and leaving for the 4th cruise to Hawaii in April - and I pack the same clothes mentioned above which I purchased prior to our FIRST cruise. That takes care of 3 "formal" nights on the 10+ day cruises.
Little did I know when we prepared for our cruise back in 1999 that I'd get so much ware out of those 3 purchases! (And we don't cruise with the same people - so it's not like "everyone" sees that I wear the same "cruise" outfits over and over!
Also: a black dress is great - can be changed in appearance with minimal accessories and looks darn great for any occasion!
Bet if this is your FIRST cruise - it won't be your LAST cruise!
"YOU GO GIRL"! And first and foremost remember that the point of the cruise is to HAVE FUN - I spent WAY TOO much time worrying about "dressing" on our first cruise - don't worry now when we book a cruise about anything except getting to the ship on time!
Enjoy!
