What are the things you wish you brought?

Just got back from a cruise and before I left I saw someone recommend taking duct tape in a small package. I didn't think I would ever need duct tape on board but I really needed it on the last cruise. We were in a handicapped room that had a little button you pushed for emergencies right above the headboard in the middle of the bed. This probably wasn't a problem when the room was made up with 2 twins, but it became a problem when beds were pushed together. Well, the purser's desk called you everytime you hit that little button - and needless to say it happened at some very inopportune moments. The purser's desk said they could not disable it or disregard it without taking the system down on the whole ship. Well I finally solved the problem on day 3 of the cruise when I asked the photographer setting up for the formal night portraits if I could have just a small piece of his black gaff tape. He happily accomodated and I taped a small dish over the button and then didn't have to worry about hitting the button again!

Here are the additional items that I really was wishing I had on various cruises-

Mosquito repellent at Tulum - I was eaten alive standing in the grass listening to the tour guide. Another lady in our group finally was nice enough to share hers. I think she was tired of listening to people slap their legs.

Small scissors- for craft class on the last cruise. You need to pack these in your checked luggage though.

While I try not to pack everything and the kitchen sink - after 4 cruises I think I am finally getting the list smaller!

On my first cruise I wish I had brought a power strip. Didn't and really had a problem keeping my curling brush hot while using the hair dryer. Believe me I haven't forgotten it since.

Re: What are the things you wish you brought?

Definitely a power strip.

Binoculars if you have a veranda.

A clock that you can read in the dark.

A robe if one isn't provided and you have a veranda. Sign on long pole saying "put something on" to wave in front of those on either side of you hanging over the rail in their skivvies.

Really dark glasses if you like to people watch.

SPF 35 lotion if you are sailing in the tropics. Water proof baby sun lotion works best.

One of those flat, blue, plug-in night lights. When we cruised on the Millinium a previous passenger had left one in their bathroom. A real life saver at night when you're trying to wash your hands. Especially for inside cabins!!!

Re: What are the things you wish you brought?

Does anyone remember if they needed one of those adaptor's that make the power plug a 2 prong rather than a 3 prong. It just seems to me that I needed that last year on the Golden. Or were you able to plug your power strip (3 prong with the ground) into the electrical outlet?
THANKS

Re: What are the things you wish you brought?

NO, use your imagination, I DO!!
I just try to have as much fun as I can, always, not just on a cruise.

as far as the lights go, we just use some of those fun party lights (palmtrees or pineapples) and the ones I use are electic, that is yet one more reason fot the power strip, and duct tape helps keep them in place.( dont use a big piece, you don't want to leave a mess for the next cruiser),
always havin fun

Re: What are the things you wish you brought?

ok Jo,

I was only joking with the elaborate bit there....I also enjoy life to the fullest. Live each day like it is your last. I always have fun no matter where i am or what i do and for the record, I have a great imagination.

That's some good advice about the lights, i think i will take advantage of that suggestion too.

Re: What are the things you wish you brought?

last nigh at Kohl's we found the cutest lights for our balcony. palm trees and pink flamingos, we intermingled them on the string and now we are ready to go... less than 50 days.

we also plan on taking an extension cord, small cd player, travel alarm clock, night light and some of those glow in the dark stars that you can stick to the walls and such. We're still thinking about taking the glow in the dark plastic footsteps (like the stars), to put on the floor to the bathroom for nighttime.

Re: What are the things you wish you brought?

LOL Tree on the footprints. ... When last I had an interior cabin, we learned to just leave the light on and crack the door -- it was just enough light to find the bath without playing human pinball in the cabin.

:-)

everyone keeps mentioning duct tape. what is it for?? tape the deck chairs so they don't dissapear? tape the items people leave on the chair to the chair and then watch them try to get their belongings off the chair as you laugh out of sight?

I wish I would have lined the inside of our suitcases with bubble wrap. Particulalry the wrap with the small bubbles. That would have made it much easier to pack the breakable souvenirs. Plus it wouldn't take up much room, and is very light weight.

Lets add a large insulated mug so your cold drinks last longer by the pool
A beach bag so you can carry everything to the sun deck and not have to wish you would have brought the ????? whatever

Good idea on the bubble wrap!

Wish I'd brought a small spray bottle of all-purpose cleaner. I swear, I'm an Oscar, not a Felix, but the gunk on the inside of the drawers really creeped me out!

Also wish I'd brought playing cards (instead of having to buy yet another deck at the gift shop!) and maybe some travel-sized games.

Re: What are the things you wish you brought?

A teeny wrist bag or teeny bag on a shoulder strap to carry my cruise card and a lipstick for dinner and evenings. You don't need a purse on a cruise, but you need a little "something..." day time was my beach bag (for sunscreen, book, etc. etc.) but for nights I suddenly realized I was missing an accessory! Luckily the ship's boutique had just what I needed.

First time crusier! I was told to take a bungee cord to hold open the balcony door, I've got a month and a half to go yet before sailing and I am not a very good packer....I always take way too much
