Default smart casual

My cruise documents indicate there are two formal nights and one smart casual night which suggests sportscoats for men on this evening. I was only planning on taking my suit for the two formal nights. I am not sure whether I will have room for the sportscoat as well. What do you seasoned people suggest?

Someone once suggested that a man could wear his suit jacket in place of a sport coat. For smart casual nights most men I saw didn't bother with a jacket though. Most just wore a dress shirt. What line will you be on? That might make a difference.

Hi Chet,
Yes, depending on what ship you are one, we too noticed that on "smart casual" evening most of the guys just wore dress shirts and didn't bother with the sports jacket. I think next cruise we'll also leave the sports jacket at home and just pack the Tux for the formals.

It really depends on the line you are taking. If you are going on Princess,Cunard,Seaborne you will see more men than usual wearing sportscoats at dinner than other lines . When we went on Princess last year , I forgot my husbands sportscoats wore a a nice dress shirt and pants and didnt seem out of place. As for the other lines you will see some sportscoats ,but a nice dress shirt and pants is the norm{from what I ve seen}

If you don't mind wearing a Sports jacket, wear it while you are traveling. With a nice pair of dockers or jeans and a knit shirt, you will look very neat. We often have this dilemma when a ship's dress code has the Informal code.
