I keep reading the posts about the plastic holders that you can wear around your neck(lanyards). Where do you purchase this item? Also do you give them to your kids? I can see my two 14 1/2 year olds wearing them but do my 9 and 8 year old need them?
Some members of our group obtained their lanyards in the casino, they're free. I never bothered getting one, don't want anything hanging around my neck all day and I certainly wouldn't let my grandson wear one around his neck.
You can find lanyards and passholders back home (kids use them for their id cards at school) and on board. Ive seen older kids wearing them (and some adults) on board. My son is young (3) so I hold on to his. The cards also act as a charge card on board, and your ticket to getting on and off the ship. If your kids are responsible, then let them have them, but if not, I would hold on to them, especially if they will be with you all the time. You can arrange to have the cards deactivated for charging-Ive seen kids go nuts with charging drinks and arcade games!
Any Wal Mart will have them. Go to the fishing section. Fisherman use them for holding their license. It was great on our cruise, because that was all you needed. Ours was big enough to hold our cards, and some money.
I was just on Voyager of the Seas and I saw an elderly lady who had on gold bracelets and rings and big gold earrings and she had her sail $ sign card hanging on a long gold necklace. She looked like she stepped out of Town & Country magazine. I am thinking of bringing a hole puncher and a long gold necklace with me on my next cruise in August . The lady actually looked elegant with the card hanging from the gold necklace!
i personally keep my card in my fanny pack for the daytime, and in my evening clutch bag for nights.
Keep your little ones cards with you, they won't need them as they will be either with you or in camp for the majority of the cruise. The older kids - definatley go for the lanyards, or shorts/boardshorts with zippered pockets( this is what my son did)
We use them for our sail and sign cards and our kids love them. My oldest daughter 16 at the time lost hers in St. Lucia once bc she didn't have it around her neck like the rest of us. She choose to put hers in her pocket and it fell out. Now she wears hers faithfully.
I love my lanyard and use it all the time on board. I won it as a prize on HAL. In it I keep my room card and card I use to unlock the safe. My hands are free and I don't have to worry about the cards falling out of my pocket. My lanyard has a pocket that seals shut but it is not waterproof as one cruiser found when he went swimming with money in it!
I use a business card wallet and keep it either in my pocket or my purse. One side holds my pass card and receipts, the other side I use for my photo id, credit card and a little cash when going ashore. It fits in any pocket and if you get one with clear lucite "windows" you don't need to take the your id out every time you need to show it.
