We are departing on Sat afternoon on QM 2 from Red Hook That's about when Ernesto is scheduled to arrive in NY--I believe we will have a soggy sailaway-- Also hope that QM 2 , being an ocean liner will do fine in possible rougher seas than normal as we make our way to Halifax!
Last year I was caught in the tail end of Hurricaine Rita, mid atlantic, the QM handled perfectly, you would never have guessed it was in the end of a hurricaine. The crew took all safety measure and everything was tied down, but I have been on ships that have mover much more on a crossing to France. I was very happy and safe aboard the QM2.
You were correct about QM 2. First night out we experienced rough seas but the QM 2 is the best ship for this type of weather... I did feel somewhat seasick but retreated to our midships cabin with some ginger ale that did the trick. Also had a rainy port day in Halifax but a sunny second sea day & all in all a nice trip..
