Dock/Port Transfers - Venice & Barcelona

We are thinking about doing the RCCL Splendour Cruise 11/20/10--leave Venice and ends in Barcelona.

Only ever having done US ports where you purchase Dock/Port Transfers from the Airport to the dock....is this the same with the European ports?

I am sure RCCL will sell you transfers but I would just go with taxis; land, not water taxi, in Venice. If you are overnighting in Venice before your trip, check to see if your hotel has a landing for a water taxi or water bus; Venice is not a good place for dragging luggage.

I have not been to Barcelona before.We stayed at a Venice hotel that was about a block from the Santa Lucia train station it was a very easy walk from the train station to our hotel. We took the train from Rome to Venice so this was easy. Here is the low down on transfers in Venice.

If the bus isn't your cup of tea you can take the airport boat called the Alilaguna. The Gold Line stops near the hotels at the train station the stop is called Guglie (Ferrovia). Here is a link to buy the Alilaguna ticket on line. You can buy a one way ticket.

Ferrovia is the water bus stop I would suggest you get a venice connected card you can customize the card how you want. We had the Museum Pass, the Public Transport Ticket, and the Daily Toilet Card. In Italy there is a charge for public toilets so with the card I didn't have to worry about having change. Click on the date you will be using the card (you have to hit the number). It will show differnet tabs. The tabs Transport, culture, and services the information I'm talking about.

Oh I stayed in a budget hotel no elevator, but you can request the ground floor. The service was wonderful and it included a contential breakfast in the morning. They made the best cappuccinos at this hotel. The price and location were very good. The hotel is called the La Locanda di Orsaria if you want something fancy this isn't your hotel. We wanted something clean, in a good location, and affordable so this hotel and perfect to us. I hope this helps you.

Yes.

Actually, there are a few options here.

>> 1. If you purchase a pre-cruise or post-cruise hotel package through the cruise line, it includes the transfer between the pier and the hotel. You may be able to upgrade these transfers to "transfer tours" that include guided visits to some attractions en route.

>> 2. If you purchase your flights through the cruise line, the air package includes transfers to and from the respective airports. These transfers will operate to or from the hotel if you also purchase a hotel package in the respective city, and otherwise operate to or from the pier.

>> 3. If you do not purchase your air fare through the cruise line, you may purchase transfers between the respective airports and piers, but only on the respective day embarkation and debarkation. Since flights to Europe arrive very early, these transfers sometimes include minitours that visit an attraction or two en route.

If you purchase a hotel package through the cruise line but do not purchase your flights through the cruise line, you will have to arrange your own travel between the airport and the hotel. This is quite easy, as taxis are readily available in all major cities, but also check to see if your hotel offers a complementary airport shuttle.

If you decide to book your own flights and purchase transfers between the airport and the pier through the cruise line, be sure to check with the cruise line regarding required times of arrival and departure of your flights and then book flights that conform to these times. Royal Caribbean International also requires submission of your flight itineraries before the line will confirm these transfers.
