I found this on the web: http://www.frommers.com/destinations...067010030.html
We didn't hit any clubs while we where there, however, Italy is a great walking city and there are people walking around at night. We loved just wandering around and experiencing the city. If you get a Venice card and are staying in the "fish" it will be easy to take the water taxi to Lido or Mestre.
Just for fun I looked up some of the sites listed in the article
Pub
http://www.devilsforest.com/pub2eng.html
Disco
http://www.piccolomondo.biz/
I loved Venice I hope this helps you.

Default Venice Nightlife

Thankyou so much for the information! So nice of you to research it for me. I hear Venice is very expensive for food and pretty much everything else, are there any bargains to be found? I will try to eat on the ship here, as much as possible. I also hear we can buy a pass that includes multiple water taxi rides so this will come in handy. Were you there on a cruise? Do you have photos posted? Or a reader review?

We did a lot of pizza or just a pasta. That saved money also if you don't eat at restuarants on the water you will save some money. Soda is the most expensive thing there. I ordered water instead. I got an orange Venicecard it was good for watertaxis and some museum entries including Dogg Palace. You can per order and then pick it up near the train station. It comes with a kit that includes a pretty good map. Here is the website. http://www.hellovenezia.com/jsp/en/v...card/index.jsp

We did a 14 day TA cruise it ended in Rome we stayed 2 days in Rome then took the train to Venice. I loved the hotel we stayed at in Venice the people were very nice. I started but haven't finished a reader review. I do have 3 photo galleries of the cruise and post cruise stays.

The website Slow Travel Italy was very helpful. http://slowtalk.com/groupee/forums/a/frm/f/862600685
Are you doing a cruise? If so the shoe shopping is cheaper in Livorno.

Oh also we went to http://www.tragicomica.it/ to buy a "real" venice mask. This company makes the masks in the old style

"to create a mask by first making a sculpture, which is then covered in plaster. The plaster "negative" is then layered in papier-mâché, removed and sealed with a base coat. The mask - each takes several hours to make - is then ready for its final look: gold leaf, tempera, water or oil colors are applied."
Here a link to an article about masks. http://travel.nytimes.com/2006/01/15.../15forage.html

This is the hotel I stayed in. It's a budget hotel in a great location near the train station. http://www.locandaorsaria.com/en/home.php here are some tripadvisor reviews. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...1357.cink_html
Fair warning it doesn't have an elevator you can request a room on the ground floor. My mom has knee problems so she got a room on the ground floor.

Default Nightlife in Venice

Wow thankyou again for all your help!

We are going on a cruise 12 night Carnival from Rome Civitavecchia to Naples, Dubrovnik, over night in Venice, Messina Sicily, Barcelona, Cannes, Liverno (Florence/Pisa) and back to Rome.

I will need to find a resonably priced hotel in Rome but not Venice.Plan to stay a few extra days here.
Looking forward to shopping for some shoes there, as well as other leather goods. My sister got a beautiful vace in Venice I belive she had it shipped home, I might look at the glass where here as well as the masks.

By the way if you like the Italian experiance you might want to consider a Costa Cruise, it's a very European cruise line, I really enjoyed it, the food was Italian, and they do this awesome Toga party on each cruise, the whole ship gets dressed up and votes on the guests in the talent show, you give them thumbs up to save them, thumbs down to send them to the lions! I won't give away the whole thing but sending them to the lions was hysterically funny! They served Gelato one day it was excellent. They had a Venetian night as well with body painting and mask making. I was on the Costa Mediterrenia ship, very nice and cheaper even then Carnival. I think I have a review in ship reviews.

If you want to shop in Rome. I heard this is the place to go for deals. Our time was a little limited so we didn't get over here. But it's the outlet stores in Rome. http://www.mcarthurglen.it/castelrom...me.php?lang=en

My hotel in rome was affordable but the shower in the bathroom was tiny. My parents stayed across the street and their room was nicer. I stayed at the Hotel Miami and my parents stayed at the Hotel Martini. These are budget hotels on Via Nationale. The location is the best part walking distance from a metro station and you can get around town easy. Oh also the hop on hop off bus is wonderful you catch it from the train station. It's a double decker bus that takes you through the town.

One of my co-cruisers booked Nicolas Inn and he really enjoyed it. We were really happy with our hotels. They were just okay.

Here is a link to the NIcolas Inn. Sometimes you get better prices if you book direct.

We had bad luck with finding good restaurants in Rome I wish I have find this article sooner maybe it will help you. It is true the Italians dine late, it's part of the things I loved about Italy. http://www.chow.com/stories/10010
