Can you take picnics from the boat?

When you go on shore excursions to the beach ect. can you take picnics from the boat? Like order room service and just pack it in your shore bag? Can you go back and forth from the ship to the shore more than once?

I was thinking it would be really nice to eat on the beach at one of the stops. Maybe just fruits and cheese or something like that. I thought that would be romantic but now I'm wondering all of a sudden if it wouldn't just be sandy. lol.

Has anyone done it before? (This will be my first cruise)

You can not take fruits and vegetables from the ship. This is a law (diseases and all). However you could put some food in a bag ( no one really checks leaving). You can go back to the ship as often as you like, but sometimes this could be a little distance from pier to where you might be. All ships do not dock right at the towns. Some you must tender.

your ship will be more than happy to pack a box lunch for you, all you have to do is ask your room steward how to go about ordering a box lunch for shore.
