Hi, Think we need to worry about two 16 year old girls walkling alone on a cruise? Not just wondering aimlessly for hours, but going from place to place. They are not problem kids, but I wonder about opportunist taking advantage of them or crime on board. I have looked at the site about incidences at sea and have seen a few rapes, but most seem to be crew on crew or what sounds like a situation that someone got themselves into that got out of hand.
Thanks for any thoughts.
I bought 2 and 3 mile walkie talkies that my 11 year old daughter takes when she explores the ships without adults. It makes us both feel safer. You can get them for about $30.

I never thought of using walkie talkies... good idea. I know sometimes it's really hard to find somebody on a big ship! Went with my 3 sisters once and spent a lot of time looking for each other a few times. Kept just missing each other. And that was on not too large of a ship - Enchantment. Can't imagine what it would be like on something like Voyager.
Our girls, 12 & 15 (at the time), walked around on their own without any trouble. We also have walkie talkies and they work out great. Just make sure you get one with sub-channels as a lot of people on the ship will have them. We also set check in times and the kids had a curfew of 11:00 p.m. unless they were with us.

IMO=In my opinion..... as long as the girls are "smart" they shouldnt have any problems. Tell them not to go into anyones cabin alone (as a pair). Stay in the public places. Now in port, I wouldnt allow them to roam on their own!
Yes, RCI has curfews of 1 am for minors. They are letting parents know that they are responsible for the actions of their children, it's printed in the daily compass (curfew time and warning). It is sad that they have to do that, but I'm sure they have experienced financial losses in damaged property that has caused this. I think the curfew is in order and does make it safer for the children. Mine are so young that they are not out on their own yet anyway, so no big deal for us. Something to keep in mind if you have older kids though.
