We are going on a Princess cruise in the Carribean in Oct. On formal night I realize it is suppose to be black. My husband has a nice brown twead sports coat and slacks tailor made, but has nothing black and refuses to buy or rent. Is this going to be acceptable or should we forgo formal night?
Thanks Marla

Re: suits
Marla the recommendation for formal attire is tux or Dark Suit; i.e. Dark Grey, Navy, Brown even light color suits will pass. A nice tweed sport coat would fall under Informal or Smart Casual for a guy. Also, it does depend on what you plan to wear. If you have a formal full length gown/dress, he may definetly feel too casual. Why not try to work with your outfit first, renting a tux is a reasonable and very convenient way for him to travel. The ship rents tuxes with orders placed in advance and he won't even have to pack or carry it. This could include the shiney black shoes, too. Lot's of guys rent and also look great for those formal pictures which you can bring home to show friends and family.
Bon Voyage!

Re: suits
We just returned from our 1st cruise. My husband wore a dark gray/blue suit for the formal and informal night and I had a couple cocktail dresses. I was worried that we wouldn't be as formal as we should be. My advice to you is to NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. On our formal nights, men and women were dressed all over the board. Some were really formal (gowns) and others had light color suits/dresses. I worried too much about it. Enjoy the cruise!
