Default Is theft a problem?

Just recently a friend of mine was telling me that on the last day of her cruise she discovered a few items had been stolen from her room and then I read a post on this board by someone who's room got robbed while they were on an excursion. Now I'm wondering.........Is theft usual a big concern??? Is it safe to keep valuables and extra cash in the room safe?

Shelly

Hi Shelly,
We've always kept our extra cash and anything valuable in the cabin safe and have yet to have any problem. From time to time you hear of a theft problem, but all in all, I think they are rare, I would just use normal caution with your stuff and you should be fine.

I do the same as Donna all the time.

One thing I do remember reading here was a man who was on our same sailing of the Sea Princess had his digital camera taken in the Horizon Court restaurant. So just take normal precautions.

I have never heard of thefts from staterooms but certainly anything is possible. That is why they provide safes. Sorry to hear about your friend.

Hi
I agree with everyone else - using normal safety precautions you should be fine - we always locked our valuables in the safe in the cabin even when we went to sleep and never left anything of value unattended on the deck and its always been fine. Although the captain did leave the keys to the ship in the ignition one day and someone stole the cruise ship for a spin when we were all in Cozumel but thats another story............hahaha

Hi, Shelly ...

I'd say, just be normally careful. If you have obscene amounts of cash or extremely expensive jewelry, use the Purser's safe.

One of the best hints ... since all that's required is the S&S card, except for the casino, gentlemen should keep their cold cash in a front pants pocket rather than in a wallet in the back. If ladies are carrying big monies for the casino, put it in the bra rather than the evening bag.

A good friend, who is quite well-to-do, always says, "You can't hide money." Keep that in mind, as well. Don't be a willing target.
