I would like to know if your experiences ended up being positive while using Skyauction. I just won an auction a day ago and have already paid for the two tickets and all.......but in my haste I hadn't stopped to think if it was a scam or not?? Any words of wisdom, advice, thoughts for me??
check out cruisecritics.com and do a search under their message boards...there are a lot of posts about sky auction...both good and bad--several from me as well.
I just got back from my cruise that I had won on skyauction.
we received our docs the Tuesday before our sailing date. They were the standard carnival documents. Everything went great. Once you have your docs you are no different than any other guest on the cruise. Our auction was for a category 4A or better cabin, inside. We got the lowest deck, right in the middle. The ship was sold out, so no upgrades available. But I DID get what I was promised and that was a 4A cabin. And I was very happy with our location and room. Our table mates also bought their cruise through sky auction and they had purchased it months before. They also received their documents the week of the sailing, and they were in the cabin next door.
Neither they nor my husband and I had any problems once we received our documents. But I would call on them and check on your documents, don't just wait and see...others who did that seemed to have problems.
thank you!!! your words of experience really eased me just the mere fact that you were allowed on the ship with the skyauction docs makes me feel a whole lot better i dont care much about an upgrade........before i won the auction i was planning on buying a 1a for $599 to save cash. so a 4a for $480 made me feel as if i already got my upgrade...and saved a ton to boot !!
i will follow your advice and keep on them about my docs. that would absolutely drive me crazy with anxiety if they came only a few days before we sailed off......plus we are going down to puerto rico for 3 days before sailing!!! do you think they will get my stuff to me 2 wks beforehand if i ask?

I don't know how early you can get the docs. I have heard some people got theirs months ahead of time when they bought their cruise way in advance, like you have...so maybe you will get them much sooner. When I called on my documents they told me they had 23 cabins on that cruise for a group booking, and that is why they had to wait for the documents from the cruise line. (not really sure I understand or buy that, about the wait). Anyway, the docs they send are actually carnival cruise line travel tickets, sky auction is just the travel agent. So the moment you give them your boarding pass at check-in, you are just another carnival cruiser. The 4a we had on the Ecstasy was great. It was a lot roomier than I had expected, and like I said we got center of the boat, which is the best location for any possible motion sickness problems.
Also, once they send you your confirmation number via email, that is your booking number. So, you can then go to the carnival cruiseline website and click on "Gifts and Services" and go through the steps of purchasing a gift for yourself. When it asks for your booking number put in the confirmation number they gave you, and for cabin, just start with the lowest 4a cabin number there is (you can find the room numbers on their deck plans), and keep trying until you find the one that is successful. If someone elses name comes up they are in the same group booking as you, just keep trying until yours comes up. When it does then you will know what cabin you are in. (of course you can always wait until you get your docs which will tell you). Also, if your auction said "4A or better" cabin, then this is a "gaurantee" room which means that they wait to assign you a room just in case they need to upgrade you to sell a cheaper room to someone who wants it...if this is the case then you won't get assigned a cabin until close to cruise time, which also means you won't get your docs until close to cruise time. Ask skyauction if it is a group booking.
I can't believe the deal you got, that is awesome! Have fun on your cruise.
y'know, i have had my booking # for a good month now and didn't think to do that "finding which cabin you are in by pretending to purchase something" thing! well.......i have now done it.......well, at least for 20 grueling minutes of looking at those tiny numbers on the brochure......all to find out which cabin we have been assigned.......and my eyes and patience have grown tired! i managed all of the 4a's and just couldn't go on! i had no luck i guess that could mean i have already been upgraded or i have not yet been assigned. or my booking # was wrong the whole time!!
for all i know, as you wrote, they may not assign us untill the last week because we do have a guarantee. but i thought that i had read somewhere that they really do book people in cabins immediately and just change the cabin throughout the life of the pre-cruise time period until sailing if the need arises. so i guess i'll just wait it out. i would like to send things to the room however, so i called the not-so-customer-service-orientated sky-auction and they told me to just give them the order and they will handle it from thier end.
oh well. i tried thank you again for your advice and wisdome !
