Default 1ST Timer Info Needed

I have read a lot of the postings here & greatly thank everyone for the input. But I still have a few questions. We are scheduled for the Diamond Princess 1/22/05
1) I heard of some bringing on a case of bottled water -- what do you do just carry it on or wrap it up and put it through with the luggage?
2) Are you allowed to have a carryy on bag- if so how large?
3) If room service included free (except for tip) or do you pay for that?

Thanks -- did I forget anything???*^%%

Hi TM,
Yes, some folks will bring their own bottled water, but honestly the water onboard the ship is fine, you can bring a water bottle and just use the tap, they also sell it onboard too. I just don't think its worth taking valuable luggage space for that and the weight of it, but a few bottles may not matter that much, depends on how much you want to drink while on the cruise. There are really a lot of good things to drink, but thats totally up to you.

Yes, you can bring carry-on luggage with you, but they must fit through the scanners, just like at the airport for size, so keep that in mind.

Room service is free, you'll just need to tip the person who delivers it.

Happy Cruising!

Most ships today desalinate sea water for drinking purposes, and it's very pure stuff. Other than one cruise, where the drinking water definitely had an "off" taste, I've always found it to be just fine.

As for tipping for room service, figure on $1 for just coffee, and $2-$3 for snacks or meals. Sometimes your own room steward will deliver your order, but most times it will be someone else. If you want coffee first thing in the morning (like I do!), order it via the door hanger thingy you'll find in your cabin and the knock from the deliverer will be your wake-up call. If you wait till you're awake to order it, it could take 1/2 hour to get there.

Thanks for your input Shelli. I just don't really know what to expect and input is helpfull. We are taking the Mex Riv in Jan 05 on the Diamond Princess and wondered if you have any advice on the port stops. PV Maz & Carbo/

Huh? I'm traveling with Carnival, and from my understanding, tips are already prearragned and included on bill? I do find it weird that someone would bring me food and I not hand them a couple bucks, but I don't think I should tip double. Am I wring?

Your tips will be added to your sign/sail card, they are not included in your cruise fare. When you tip the person who brings room service, the other tips do not include that person, so tip a few bucks for room service.

jennifer - as Donna has stated, the people who bring you your food from room service are not included in your automatic tipping. If you order a full breakfast for example, its a nice jesture to give the "delivery person" a couple of bucks .
