We are first time cruisers, and have booked a late May Inside Passage round trip cruise from Seattle. Our ports are Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria.
We have booked a ship sponsored excursion in Juneau - the salmon bake. However, we are thinking that we would like to tour the other towns on our own, and on the Internet have found a few local tour/excursion opportunities that appear to be reasonable and interesting.
Does anyone have any suggestions regarding our thoughts on this?
I've booked both through the ship and with independents. I book through the ship when: (1) the excursion I want is only available through the ship (2) when the excursion takes up almost all of our time in port. ie we're in port for 8 hours and its a 7 hour excursion (3) if the excursion involves travel inland of more than an hour. Other than that I've booked excursions independently and have had very good luck with it. Hope this helps.
