What is suggested arrival time from Civitavecchia

Good Morning
Departing Monday Oct 7 at 6pm from Civitavecchia. What would be a suggested arrival time prior to departure? We are overnighting in Rome and just trying to gage travel times to the part and how long we can actually stay in Rome before heading to port.
Thanks and Cheers

It depends on how you are traveling - car, train, coach?

Keep in mind traffic can be unpredictable.

Also, it would be a shame if you missed the boat

I would say the earlier the better, but no later than 2:00 or 3:00.

Boarding usually begins around 11am and you are expected be on board minimum an hour prior to sailing. If you arrive early(10-11am) you can get through security, checkin, and be on board in as little as 20mins, arrive later on and it may take an hour to an hour and a half of waiting in lines.

Thank you for the response, it helps. We will probably take the train from Rome to Civitecchia as I understand it is only a little over an hour away and there are lots of trains.
Cheers

Thanks for the input. I am trying to spend at least half a day in Rome before departing by train for Civitecchia. This SilverSeas cruise only has 300 people on it so I can't imagine the lines being too long.
Best Wishes

trains to Civitavecchia to Rome

Hi there,
Just a small piece of advice about travelling by train in Italy: remember that the actual duration of any even prety short ride might take much longer than stated on time-tables. as for Civitavecchia, even though you will read it should take about one hour from Roma Termini Station to Civitavecchia, be prepared to stay on that train even for 2. Also, from the train Station to the ships there is a 15 minute walk under the Italian sun waiting for you. Some cruise lines offer free shuttles to and fro the station, yet some other don't so try to check this before. Possible alternatives could be reaching there by taxi, in which case you should know that drivers are not entitled to ask you more than 10 EUR: if they raise the price, you're being frauded :) This and many other useful info about Civitavecchia available here.
