My partner and I are about to go on our first cruise ever aboard the Carnival Destiny on 3/17/02.... and looking for any info on how the cruise employees were with Gay passengers, and just any overall comments and or suggestions you may have for us.... and of course if you are going to be on the cruise at the same time!
When my (then)partner and I were aboard Destiny we had no problems whatsoever with the crew. The cabin (a standard outside) was the most comfortable one I've ever had (26 cruises).
My problem was with the passengers. We sailed on a peak summer sailing from NYC. I've never seen so many baby carriages in my life. They were lined up in the corridors like a parking lot. In fact our neighbors had a baby that cried all night long every night. Every sailing is different, with different passenger mixes, so your mileage may vary. Given the time frame of your cruise, it will probably be more of a spring break crowd.
My other problem was with the comedians. They are basically playing to a straight middle class, middle america audience. Both headliner comedians had so-so routines. Both felt it would be hilarious to end their sets with gay jokes that I felt were in very poor taste and somewhat malicious in context of otherwise tame routines. Since the entertainers are always rotated, you may not have the same experience.
Try to find the secluded outdoor promenades which are lined with padded chairs almost the entire length of the ship. Hardly anyone was out there (preferring the decks surrounding the pools) so it was a nice place to get away in relative peace and privacy.
