La Grande Princess

In Canadien Franšais , the gay expression for anyone considered to be,
shall we say, flamboyant, somewhat larger than life is "La Grande". Then
what a fitting name for the ship that will take us through Scandinavia and on
to the playgrounds of the Russian tsars and tsarinas. The comments I am
reading about The Grand Princess are most encouraging. The August
sailing cannot come soon enough.

I've been on the Grand Princess 5 times, you'll enjoy her immensely. The itinerary you are doing is fantastic, was hoping to do that one (again) in May, but decided on the Royal Princess Europe instead.

Did the Baltic in May 98 on the Royal Princess, RT Dover, but the stops are great. Make plans to see the Hermitage and as many palaces as you can.

In St. Petersburg...watch out for pick pockets...especially in the Hermitage..young early teen girls especially. A number of people off our ship were robbed.
The Museum is a wonder.....I got within 3 inches of a DaVinci painting!
Have a great cruise!

Grand - August 17th - 27th Scandinavia and St. Petersburg
Grand - August 27th - October 11th UK, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland & New York

Thanks Ivan and Joe for bumping this one up as, other than asking who else will be joining the five of us on either or both of these cruises, we wanted to ask of those who have sailed the Grand, what bar would be most appropriate to hold a FOD gathering. Surely the Skywalker Night-club is too large a facility to hold a get aquatinted gathering. We have found that a smaller facility lessens the mistaken identity syndrome...

when you board just ask the cd staff to post an FOD party (and you'll probably find out they already have scheduled one)...they'll know the best place. and on princess we've always had one, usually first or second sea day. they may even kick in some champagne or a round of drinks, maybe a family member (and there WILL BE ONE AT LEAST) to even be the host/ess. ....good luck!

Ron and Jon,

You two are going to love the Grand Princess.

Jeff and I were last aboard her in October 2002. She really is a beauty. I see you are doing B2B cruises ending in NYC - that looks like an amazing trip - tres fabulous!

Like Mike said, Princess is very good about doing hosting an FOD party. It seems that on the Grand, they're put in automatically - usually the afternoon of the first sea day. It will be hosted by a staff member. Lawrence, one of the dancers, hosted ours. When speaking with him, he mentined that he would be staying on so he could do the Baltics so you may get a chance to meet him. Really nice guy. Have also heard that Kelly, one of the cruise directors staff, has also hosted. Not sure if he'll be onboard for the Baltics but he is a really fun guy - great personality!

Our FOD party was hosted (i.e., the first round of drinks was compliments of the Cruise Director) in the Wheelhouse lounge. It was a great spot. On our sailing we met 4 other couples which was great because we all became friends. During the cruise we shared dinners, drinks, shows and the really cool part is that we have kept in touch post-cruise to plan future holidays together.

Have a great time - we're envious :)
