Star Clipper 37 day cruise: Phuket to Athens 3/21-4/27/09
Any family members on this cruise? It's a small sailing ship. Similar to Windstar but smaller. Single guy traveling alone who would like to meet others on this cruise. Also, feedback is appreciated from anyone who has taken this itinerary
I've taken early retirement (55) and plan on seeing the world. This trip is a great vacation for those in similar situations (or people of independent means). The ship leaves Phukett, crosses the Indian Ocean with time in Sri Lanka, Goa and then off through the Suez Canal to Alexandra and Cairo. On then to Greece with stops in Mykynos before arriving in Athens. It's a perfect blend of authentic sailing vessel and nice accomodations. It's not for people who like megaships and all they offer but a great way to recharge the batteries, get to know other passengers and soak up the sea air. There are many days at sea without port calls ... I think 14 days is the longest. I took a 2 week transatlantic cruise (no stops) on WindSurf a few years back. Wonderful. I'm still friends with a gay couple I met on this cruise.
So . . . check out their website. I've done research and have found no negative posts (although, those looking for amenities associated with megaships would not enjoy this trip). The price is terrific. They're offering a 20% discount and my single fare for 37 days is 7600. I spent that much on a 2 week Princess cruise a couple years ago.
