Default Wheelchair rentals

I was just told that there is a service that you can rent wheelchairs (regular and motorized) and they will be delivered directly to the ship. We
are looking at a South America cruise next Jan. 09 around the Cape.
We are presently booked from Rio to Val but just may sign up for the
first portion leaving from Florida. More days but would save on airfare, extra nites in Rio, airfare deviation fee and visa costs. (Or so I have been told). Does someone have the names of these companies and
about what the cost is??

Another question: If we decide to bring our own wheelchair - how does
one arrange that with the airlines?? Do they charge extra baggage fees
for them?? and how is it handled?? Do we need to pack it up in some
type of box?? We wouldn't necessarily need it in the airports as we would
ask for assistance - but I am concerned about damage and cost.

If you wish to rent a wheelchair you can contact www.cruiseshipassist.com. They provide the wheelchairs for most of the major cruiselines.

If you bring your own chair it should be a collapsible wheelchair. The stateroom doors are not very wide and the more narrow the chair the better.

The airlines will gate check wheelchairs once the passenger has boarded.

Take care,
Mike
