I am on HAL Veendam arriving back at Port Evergaleds of 2/2/02. I need to get to Avis car rental at Ft. Lauderdale airport. Rather than use the ship shuttle to get to the main airport, and then have to wait for an Avis shuttle bus, I thought it would be more convenient to take a taxi directly to the rental office. My questions are, 1) Are taxis readily available at the arrival terminal? and 2) Approximately how much would the taxi ride cost? Any ideas?
I thought you had to call the rental agency to pick you up at the pier. I have heard that since 9/11 that they are not allowing a lot of taxis and rental agencies to drive right up to the pier - there are check points to go through. Why not phone the rental company you are dealing with and ask them this question.
I was pricing rental cars myself in Port Everglades (We sail on 3/6 on the Volendam!) and all the major rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Dollar, Budget) told me that they would REIMBURSE clients for Taxi fare. So, in the end, you wont pay anything if you bring your receipt to the rental desk. Also, we're paying 65.00 per night for a CONVERTABLE from Dollar (In March) which is Phenominal! Enjoy your cruise!
