Default HAL drink cards

8)
We will be cruising on HAL next month and I have been looking into
purchasing a soda card, mixed drink card, or wine card. Do you
get a wide choice of wines or are you limited? Does the soda card
get you a can of soda or just a glass? Are two people allowed to
use the same soda/wine/drink cards? And finally, are the mixed
drinks of your choosing or from a limited list? Are these a good buy?
What is the price of a glass of wine, mixed drink, and soda onboard?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Happy Sailing.............

We used the HAL wine card when we did our Alaska Cruise in May. We bought a 20 glass wine card for $77.63 including gratuities. It can be used by anyone. Really convenient, they just punch it for each glass ordered, and you only have one bill on your account, or perhaps more . There were a number of different wines. We were quite happy with them. I think the regular price for wine was around $4.25. Another advantage is in the dining room - you don't have to order a whole bottle of wine, especially if you drink white and your SO drinks red.

We haven't used any of the other cards, but I'm guessing they work the same.

The wine and soda cards give you so many pours at a set price. No you don't get the whole can of soda, you get a glass. Same with wine. I believe both the soda and wine cards are good for 20 pours. Wine cards are good for house pours ... red, white, blush and red wines.

There is also a "Signature Cocktail Card" that is good for ten Signature Cocktails. I think the price was about $59.00, including gratuity. Everytime you order a cocktail, you just give the bar waiter the card, and they punch a hole in it. When all ten holes are punched, you buy another card!

I know that with the card, it comes out about 50 cents a cocktail cheaper. Hint: Do not use the card for the Cocktail of the Day, as you will come out cheaper just charging those to your room card. The Cocktail of the Day is priced lower than normal Signature Cocktails.

I found using the cards easier as I didn't have to worry about signing for all my drinks. I would just buy a card, sign for that, and then use it for several days. When I ran out, well ... I just bought another!

And, yes, HAL doesn't care how many people share a wine, soda or cocktail card. They are punching holes, so if two people each order a drink, two holes are punched. I think this is why HAL changed their soda card deal ... from unlimited sodas to a set number. Probably people were sharing the cards and with the unlimited fountain drinks, HAL was losing. This way, you can now buy one soda card for three kids to share. HAL could care less. When the 20 holes are punched, the kids get no more soda.

Blue skies ...

A cocktail card is new to me also and will definitely use them to compliment our bar set up.
I like the hole punch idea because I tend to tip heavier and heavier as the night goes on.
I have learned that "tipping for the next drink"doesn't have nearly the return you get when in a land based lounge.
